He can beat you in his sleep
There have been a lot of interesting character designs in fighting games, but we think that the bar has reached new heights with Bedman in Guilty Gear Xrd. The aptly named warrior is a man permanently asleep in a robotic bed that fights for him. The bed morphs into all different shapes, using its spiked gear-like wheels to attack. If Bedman is idle for too long, the bed will fold back into a standard bed like the one in your bedroom and wait for the player to input something. Bedman sounds absurd, but in action he's awesome to watch.
The other new character revealed at E3 is Ramlethal (pronounced ram-leh-THALL), a dual sword wielding woman with psychic powers. She doesn't hold her swords; they levitate behind her via a psychic link and she can send them out into the battlefield at will. During the demo she created a lethal triangle trap with one sword behind the opponent, one sword above, and herself in front, all attacking from all sides. There is a risk to this, however; her Tension bar does not rise as fast if the swords are not at her side, so while you may have your opponent in a bad spot, there will be less Tension to spend on a big super attack. Despite that Ramlethal has some potent strategies that should immediately make her popular among the hardcore Guilty Gear fans.
Those who haven't played Guilty Gear before will be happy to know that this will be a less complicated Guilty Gear experience. While other games in the series added layers of systems to learn, Xrd actually strips some of them away in a "less is more" approach that will make the game more accessible. Fighting game fans who've admired Guilty Gear from a distance will soon have a game they can jump right into.
