The Umbrella Academy season 4 finally has a release date, and it's very soon. That's not all we know about the fourth and final installment of the hit Netflix show either, as we got our first look in a new trailer showcasing Netflix's 2024 slate. The brief clip shows Five and Viktor applauding something, before revealing the whole Hargreeves gang (plus Lila) taking "one last shot" together around a table. Toasting the end of the world, perhaps? Well, it wouldn't be the first time.

As well as those familiar faces, there are also some new additions to the cast for the upcoming batch of episodes, including Nick Offerman. For full details on new cast members, an estimated release window, and much more, read on for our complete guide to The Umbrella Academy season 4. Need a refresh on the story so far? The Umbrella Academy season 4 arrives on Netflix on August 8, 2024.

Before this, we knew that it was coming in 2024, but we only had a broad timeframe. However, the release date does fit into our predictions. There was a gap of just under two years between season 2 and season 3, and a break of around a year and a half between season 1 and season 2. Season 3 was released in June 2022, so it makes sense that we get new episodes by mid-year.

It's hard to tell what The Umbrella Academy season 4 will have in store without a trailer or synopsis, but the way season 3 wrapped up gives us a pretty good idea of potential plot points. We also know it's the show's final season, so we'll hopefully get a lot of answers. Plus, showrunner Steve Blackman has confirmed that season 4 will only have six episodes (rather than 10, like the previous three seasons).

We'll see the repercussions of the Hargreeves resetting the universe in the season 3 finale, for one thing. Plus, the mid-credits scene makes it seem like Umbrella Ben is back, but Sparrow Ben is still in the picture, too, which complicates matters. Maybe we'll even find out some more about how Umbrella Ben died. Reginald's late wife Abigail is seemingly back from the dead, too, while Luther is looking for Sloane, who was missing at the end of season 3. The gang's all here in the first look at season 4, though – all the siblings and Lila are gathered around a table taking "one last shot, for old times' sake."

We're likely to learn the terms of the deal Reginald made with Allison – Ray, the man she was married to in 1963, appears in the present day at the end of season 3, so we can assume this has something to do with it, and we may find out how Reginald was able to make this happen. Oh, and we can pretty confidently guess that there'll be some kind of world-ending event on the horizon, too.

Showrunner Steve Blackman revealed that the season premiere will be titled 'The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want' after he posted a photo of the front page of the script on Instagram with the caption "And so it begins… one last time." Plus, we know that the season finale will be titled 'The End of the Beginning.'

An image posted by showrunner Steve Blackman to mark the start of production showed several cast members at a table read, which is pretty much confirmation that they're returning for round four. The photo shows Elliot Page (Viktor), Tom Hopper (Luther), David Castañeda (Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Five),  Justin H. Min, and Ritu Arya (Lila). It's also been confirmed that Colm Feore will be back as patriarch Reginald Hargreeves.

No one else's return has been confirmed yet, but the season 3 finale made it seem like Reginald's late wife Abigail was back from the dead – she was played by Liisa Repo-Martell in her brief season 1 appearance. Yusuf Gatewood could also be back in the picture as Ray, Alison's husband from 1963. And then there's Genesis Rodriguez, who plays Sloane, one of the remaining Sparrows along with Ben – she went missing at the end of season 3, so it remains to be seen whether she's still alive and if she'll be back for season 4.

There are some new cast members joining, too: Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, and David Cross will all make an appearance in season 4. Real-life husband and wife Mullally and Offerman will play Drs. Gene and Jean Thibedeau, "a married pair of community college professors from New Mexico who wear sensible footwear and suffer from the most extreme case of deja vu this timeline has ever seen."

Cross, meanwhile, is playing  Sy Grossman, "an upstanding, shy business owner and family man desperate to reconnect with his estranged daughter, who will stop at nothing to get her back."
