The infamous words 'based on a true story' at the start of a horror movie usually means there's a character in there who shares a name with a human who existed once and might have been scared of the dark. At best the links are spurious, at worst, everything is lies. James Wan's The Conjuring 2 is a little different - or at least different lies.
It's based on the widely publicised 1977 case of the Enfield Poltergeist which saw numerous investigators visiting the home of two young girls in London who were allegedly undergoing attacks from a vicious entity. Police and investigators alike witnessed unique phenomena that's still not been fully explained and, as you can see in the video below, the victims might be 30 years older but they've stuck to the same story.
Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, actually came to investigate, making this the ideal sequel to the original. Combo-ing up the victims stories, real recordings and typical Blumhouse horror footage, the above featurette gives us a glimpse at the scares to come next month. I don't know about you but that recording brings me up in goosebumps. It better have been a hoax, just so I can sleep tonight.
