Jar Jar Binks has had a rough go of it, and a new official novel set between Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens proves that things didn't improve much for the gungan goofball in the decades after the prequel trilogy. Spoiler warning - there is some sad poetry to his eventual fate. As Mashable revealed in an early excerpt from Chuck Wendig's Star Wars Aftermath: Empire's End, Jar Jar eventually drops all pretense and becomes a Pagliacci-esque sad clown.
One of the novel's interludes follows a refugee boy named Mapo, who meets Jar Jar performing for children on the streets of Naboo. The kids all seem to enjoy his wacky antics, but for some reason the adults all take great care to ostracize him.
"Jar Jar makin some uh-oh mistakens," Jar Jar explains to Mapo, staring off into the distance as he finishes his next sentence. "Desa hisen Naboo tink I help the uh-oh Empire."
Help the uh-oh Empire? Yeah… you could say that.
In Jar Jar's defense (never thought I'd write those words) I'm sure Supreme Chancellor Palpatine would have found another senatorial patsy to give him unchecked power if Jar Jar "I'm A Giant Doofus" Binks hadn't been around. But I doubt that's much consolation. Barring a surprise appearance as savior of the New Republic in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it sounds like the story of Binks has officially ended on a pretty dour note.
