It feels like we’ve been waiting decades for the next game from Team Ico, but it’s really only been two and a half years since The Last Guardian was formally announced. Still, the number of delays since we first assumed the game would launch in 2010 have left us confused and worried. And rumors that the head of the developer, Fumito Ueda, had left Sony hardly raised our spirits. Today Ueda went on his Twitter to address some concerns, but ignored the bigger questions.
As translated by Andriasang Ueda returned to his Japanese language Twitter to write the following: “I've received a lot of questions... there's no need to worry, as The Last Guardian is still in production." While that’s certainly reassuring, according to the rumor Ueda is still working on the game as a freelancer but has left his position as Team Ico’s studio head. Sadly, Ueda was silent on whether he continues to be a Sony employee, though he did remind us that tomorrow is the tenth anniversary for Ico, which is cool even if it provides little comfort in this time of uncertainty. It’s possible we won’t get any more clarification on the matter until after Last Guardian ships, whenever that might be.
