Trailer shows Driver: San Francisco's Film Director mode - epic car chase movies here we come

Driver: San Francisco will feature a Film Director mode, just like the original did on PSone. Not excited? You should be - we lost track of the amount of time we spent on the original, placing a custom camera on every single frame to enable sweeping shots that couldn't be done with the rather limited toolset. But of course, that was then and this is now. Technology is better! So let's see what Reflections' new Film Director mode will let you do:

The options let you place cameras manually, change the length of any one shot, change the playback speed for a specific camera (perfect for skipping past dull bits where no-one crashes - damn them!) and even let the game auto-direct certain sections (so you can concentrate on fine-tuning those few seconds of amaze-o-footage.

Above: Using a side panel as a mirror to track your pursuer with a tracking cam? Fingers crossed!

You can then upload your creation to the web (we presume through YouTube) to share it with your friends. To get you in the mood, you can already have a go at editing some pre-recorded footage on a cut-down version of the mode on Facebook right now.

Personally, I can't wait to get editing together my own car chase movie - if PSone let me track a stray hubcap as it rolled down the road (did anyone else do that?), picking out even smaller details in slow-motion on 360/PS3 is going to be so sweet.

The game is out on Friday in the UK and next Tuesday (September 6) in the US.
