Blue Estate is a game you don't want to take home to your mother

There's a reason they call it blue

There's a reason they call it blue

When was the last time you played a rail shooter? Excluding a few surprise breakouts like Child of Eden and The House of the Dead: Overkill, these controlled shooters are on a slow track to obsoleteness, hearkening back to a time when arcades ruled the world. Thats why a game like Blue Estate--a rail-shooter massacre rife with idiot gangsters, crude humor, and ham-fisted satire based on the kitschy comic of the same name--is such a weird shot in the dark. But it works in its bizarre way, and being locked onto a track while mafia goons come at you with bottles and machetes was never so entertaining.

Nestled against the bosom of B-movie mockery, Blue Estate follows the cases of Roy Devine, a nerdy gumshoe detective who comes into contact with some highly unsavory folks. We get to experience their stories through different levels in the game, which utilize the PS4s gyroscope technology to imitate the light gun for a new generation. Stages go at 100 miles an hour with few breathers in between shooting sprees, and the game hardly leaves you alone to concentrate. As most of its entertainment value comes in overwhelming the player, expect to hear sassy comments from your main character in the midst of a shootout, tongue-in-cheek clichs and jokes about former politicians turning tricks. Even mundane tasks add to the games frantic nature, as enemies will often blow away your cover and youll sometimes have to stop and push hair out of your characters eyes (yes, really).

For some players, the games loud, snarky, and ultra-violent nature might be too much to handle, but if youre into silly pseudo-noir with a dash of skull-cracking, Blue Estate is right up your alley.

Cant get enough? Check out the following slides for screenshots and more explosive info.
