BAFTA Shorts review

A compilation of seven shorts nominated at the 2013 Baftas

Alternately sad, enthralling and disturbing, this compilation of seven shorts – all of them nominees at the 2013 Baftas – is a testament to the diversity of an often over-looked format.

If there’s one theme that unites them all it’s ‘time’. Kris Kelly and Evelyn McGrath’s opening Here To Fall shatters the time-space continuum, while history unravels in the bloody, tongue-in-cheek Tumult .

Acid-trip animation I’m Fine Thanks , sun-blasted drama The Curse and sexual awakening drama Good Night offer genre-skipping kicks, but the best is saved for last – with Lynne Ramsay’s award-winning Olympic short Swimmer , an elegant monochrome moodpiece (with a savage score) that seems to make time stand still.
