While the idea of a sequel to Jim Carrey’s hefty 2003 comedy hit Bruce Almighty might not seem like an idea sent from heaven, the cast is certainly shaping up to be a good one.
John Goodman is joining Steve Carrell in Evan Almighty, the already-announced Bruce sequel that has just started shooting. The plot sees anchorman Evan, who was Bruce’s big opponent in the original, taking up a career in politics. He’s granted an audience with God – played again by Morgan Freeman – who orders him to build an ark, as the world is apparently headed for some apocalyptically wet weather.
Lauren Graham, better known for US TV drama Gilmore Girls, will play Carrell’s wife in the comedy, while Goodman plays a congressman who takes Evan under his wing. Writer Steve Oedekerk and director Tom Shadyac are both returning.
