Saw 3 (2006)
The Moment: Jigsaw coerces Bahar Soomekh’s surgeon into cutting away a piece of his skull in what has to be one of the most teeth-grindingly hideous scene in the entire franchise.
Look Away When: As soon as the drill makes contact with his skull, hit the mute button. The noise is excruciating.
Saw 2 (2005)
The Moment: Narrowly pipping the surgery scene comes the moment with the pit of syringes. For anyone with even a passing fear of needles, it’s nigh-on unwatchable.
Look Away When: The first point of impact. It had the audience audibly howling when we first watched it.
Dirty Love (2005)
The Moment: This Jenny McCarthy starring dud features an unbelievably stupid scene in which McCarthy has her time of the month all over a supermarket floor. In torrents. Offensive on a number of levels, not least in its total ignorance of female biology…
Look Away When: The old lady slips in it and falls flat on her back. Dear oh dear…
Bad Taste (1987)
The Moment: Lovely, warming swig of alien vomit anyone? No? Anyone?
Look Away When: The old buffer withdraws his head from the bowl, revealing a blob of vomit quivering on his nose.
Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
The Moment: A little boy takes the plunge into a festering toilet pit, and all for the sake of an autograph. Now that’s a real fan for you…
Look Away When: He resurfaces, coated from head to toe in the collective excrement of the citizens of Mumbai.
Scarface (1983)
The Moment: Al Pacino watches his pal lose a couple of limbs to a chainsaw-wielding goon. Stomach-churning stuff…
Look Away When: Another where the sounds are worse than the sights, this one is a true assault on the senses. Just listen to him scream.
Society (1989)
The Moment: The film’s grand finale really has to be seen to be believed, as Billy Warlock’s worst fears are confirmed by a vista of mutant mayhem.
Look Away When: The Mayor rams his hand through the backside and out through the mouth of one of Billy’s classmates, quipping “let’s get to the bottom of this,” as he does so.

Zack & Miri Make a Porno (2008)
The Moment: Jeff Anderson’s cameraman gets a face-full of nasty when the sex scene taking place above him comes to an abrupt stop. “That chick frosted me like I was a fucking cake!” he complains, hilariously.
Look Away When: It’s only a split-second shot, but you can see bits of corn in there. Not nice.
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983)
The Moment: Mr Creosote settles down for dinner, aiding his gargantuan appetite by filling a sick bucket at regular intervals.
Look Away When: Mr Creosote finally explodes, thanks to his inability to resist the lure of the wafer-thin mint.
Misery (1990)
The Moment: Kathy Bates is forced to reprimand James Caan for his continued attempts to escape. She’s only trying to look after him, after all…
Look Away When: She reaches for the sledgehammer. Ahhhh, that’s a hobblin’.
