Zero

The Image Comic: Hot young writer Ales Kot teams with a host of talented artists on the tale of the life of Edward Zero, trained from birth to be the world’s deadliest superspy.

The Movie Version: Taking a page from the early days of Edward Zero, a cast of young and talented actors could bring to life the brutal and sometimes touching early days of the juvenile killers.

Lead Characters: Asa Butterfield (Edward Zero), Chloe Grace Moretz (Mina Thorpe), Michael Douglas (Roman Zizek).

Dream Director: Paul Greengrass.

Deadly Class

The Image Comic: 2014 is the year of Rick Remender, with new series popping up all over the place. Deadly Class sees a young orphan inducted into San Francisco’s secret school for assassins.

The Movie Version: The retro 1987 setting, the ultra-violence and kung fu references all cry out for one director: Mr Quentin Tarantino.

Lead Characters: Tyler Posey (Marcus Lopez), Ellen Wong (Saya).

Dream Director: Quentin Tarantino.

Black Science

The Image Comic: In Rick Remender and Matteo Scalera’s series, Grant McKay leads the Anarchist League of Scientists through dimension after dimension in the search for a way home after transgressing against the laws of nature with black science!

The Movie Version: We all know that Nolan is good for a dark and disturbing visual feast, and he’s already getting into the sci-fi mood with Interstellar . For our lead, it’s time Mark Strong got a go in the spotlight as the tortured adventurer-scientist star.

Lead Characters: Mark Strong (Grant McKay).

Dream Director: Christopher Nolan.

Pax Romana

The Image Comic: Jonathan Hickman brought his signature intelligent storytelling to the tale of a group sent by the Catholic Church to alter the past. When the team’s leader goes rogue, things really start to get interesting.

The Movie Version: Blomkamp has proved that he can skilfully handle high-concept sci-fi. This wholesale historical revisionism is about as high-concept as they come.

Lead Characters: Liam Neeson (Nicholas Chase), John Hurt (Cardinal Beppi Pelle).

Dream Director: Neill Blomkamp.

Powers

The Image Comic: Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming pretty much established the life-in-a-superhero-world genre with their procedural police drama, Powers .

The Movie Version: The Powers pilot has been floundering for years. We say grab the cast and move ahead with a movie based on the first storyline, ‘Who Killed Retro Girl’, with The Wire and The Shield alumni Johnson in the director’s chair.

Lead Characters: Jason Patric (Christian Walker), Lucy Punch (Deena Pilgrim).

Dream Director: Clark Johnson.

Five Ghosts

The Image Comic: Frank J. Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham have created a modern day pulp classic in this story of Fabian Elwes, a man who calls upon the literary ghosts of a vampire, detective, samurai, archer and wizard in his quest for treasure and his lost love.

The Movie Version: It’s about time we had a new swashbuckling adventure. Elwes is the man we need to lead the cast, and Spielberg still has it in him to give us a fresh new adventure movie.

Lead Characters: Cary Elwes (Fabian Gray), Alexis Denisof (Sebastian), Anthony Hopkins (Iago).

Dream Director: Stephen Spielberg.

Supreme

The Image Comic: This Superman knock-off creation of Rob Liefeld went through a series of incarnations before falling into the dangerously competent hands of Alan Moore.

The Movie Version: Moore’s run on the title took turned Supreme into an homage to classic superheroes and a tale about the nature of story.

Bring Donner back for a revised take on his classic Superman.

Lead Characters: Russell Crowe (Ethan Crane/Supreme), Bryan Cranston (Darius Dax).

Dream Director: Richard Donner.

Starlight

The Image Comic: Mark Millar is launching his shared Millarworld universe in this miniseries.

Goran Parlov is illustrating the tale of a washed up pulp hero called upon for one last, universe-saving mission.

The Movie Version: Kevin Costner has had something of a renaissance of late, and like Duke McQueen, he deserves another stab at comic book movie glory after his abrupt Man of Steel fate.

Lead Characters: Kevin Costner (Duke McQueen).

Dream Director: Robert Zemeckis.

Real Heroes

The Image Comic: Bryan Hitch’s comic about movie superstars-turned-superheroes is yet to arrive, but we expect big things from the Ultimates artist.

The Movie Version: Details remain sparse, but we’re lining up some of Hollywood’s hottest young stars in preparation.

Lead Characters: Chris Evans, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman.

Dream Director: Joe Carnahan.

Pretty Deadly

The Image Comic: This Western comic introduces us to the daughter of death - Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios’ Deathface Ginny - and her mission of revenge.

The Movie Version: Sofia Coppola excels at building dreamlike worlds, though this will call for a bit more on screen brutality than The Virgin Suicides or Lost in Translation (discounting the karaoke).

Lead Characters: Lola Creton (Deathface Ginny), Hailee Steinfeld (Sissy), Morgan Freeman (Fox).

Dream Director: Sofia Coppola.
