Braindead (1992)

The Sex Scene: Zombies getting it on… In Peter Jackson's splatter classic, a zombie nurse and a zombie priest give in to their carnal (carnage?) desires, doing the (really, REALLY) nasty while locked up in the basement.

Most Awkward Moment: Their unholy union results in a zombie baby.

Because nothing good can EVER come from a zombie nurse and priest having sex.

The Sex Scene: Bad girl Dawn Davenport (Divine) has sex with fat guy Earl Peterson (Divine) on a filthy mattress by the side of the road.

Most Awkward Moment: Public sex isn't exactly dignified at the best of times, is it?

Naked Gun (1988)

The Sex Scene: Detective Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) and Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley) go back to Frank's place, where they quickly head to the bedroom from a little one-on-one time.

Most Awkward Moment: The pair agree that they should practise "safe sex", which requires them to wear full-body condoms.

Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life (1983)

The Sex Scene: "Why not start with a nice kiss?" demands a schoolmaster (John Cleese) while teaching sex ed to his class.

"You don't have to go leaping straight for the clitoris like a bull at the gate."

Most Awkward Moment: The schoolmaster's theoretical discussions about sex suddenly become very literal - and visual - when his wife turns up and the pair do it in front of the (still bored) class…

Showgirls (1995)

The Sex Scene: Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) has sex with Zack Carey (Kyle MacLachlan) in his pool.

It's so bad and so ridiculous that it's forevermore been labelled the 'dolphin sex scene', because that's basically what this pair look like when they get going.

Most Awkward Moment: The thrashing just - doesn't - end.

Team America: World Police (2004)

The Sex Scene: Gary and Lisa tear aside their clothes for one of the funniest and most graphic sex scenes ever committed to celluloid.

And by the way, they're also puppets with no genitalia to speak of (apart from nipple-free boobies)…

Most Awkward Moment: The theatrical cut is pretty outrageous, but the uncut version includes a golden shower and a hilarious bit involving something brown…

Howard The Duck (1986)

The Sex Scene: Duck-like alien Howard (Chip Zien) goes to bed with his human, Earth girlfriend Beverly (Lea Thompson).

"I can't find the right man," she complains. "Maybe it's not a man you should be looking for," quacks Howie.

Most Awkward Moment: Howard's feathers get, um, 'excited'.
