Prime Number
The Film: Shane Carruth's notoriously nerdy time-travel head-scratcher, Primer (2004).
The Reference: Emiba Devices is the name of the start-up company created by accidental time-machine inventors Carruth and David Sullivan.
Why It's Cool: Hands-down winner of the most obscure T-shirt for the most obscure movie.
If it looks like the kind of thing a scientist would wear, that's kinda the point, because Primer is only understood by PhD level physicists.
Where? Wake Up Time to Die
It's Got Electrolytes
The Film: Mike Judge's dystopian satire about America's stupid future, Idiocracy (2006)
The Reference: Brawndo is the energy drink brand so powerful it has replaced water, even as a means of irrigating plants.
Bringing all the latest movie news, features, and reviews to your inbox
Why It's Cool: By rights, Idiocracy should be as well known as the Anchormans and Dodgeballs of the world.
That a botched release stopped it from reaching audiences gives it undeniable cachet as an accidental cult. Wear it, it's shows you're brainy enough to have tracked the film down.
Where? 8 Ball
Tout Le Monde
The Film: Matthieu Kassovitz's Molotov cocktail of a movie about post-riot Paris, La Haine (1995)
The Reference: A graffiti'd poster spotted by banlieue bad boy Said Taghmaoui on the city's streets.
Why It's Cool: An incredibly subtle nod to an amazing film, but one that transcends its roots to be an iconic statement of defiance and rage.
It doesn't even matter that the message is in French, the meaning is that clear.

Watch Out For The Klopeks
The Film: Joe Dante's comedy-thriller about nimbies convinced their neighbour is a serial killer in The Burbs (1989).
The Reference: Hinckley Hills, Iowa is the town where Tom Hanks leads a calamitous vigilante campaign against the weirdo Klopek family.
Why It's Cool: It's a wry nod to the clash we all have between surburbanite conformity and hip self-expression.
Or, to put it another way, it's a movie tee that's a little easier to wear round the folks' house than your Hallowe'en shirt.
Where? Arcane Projects
Wake Me Up Before You Limbo
The Film: Christopher Nolan's dream of a movie, Inception (2010)
The Reference: It's a graphical representation of the film's plot, showing who's dreaming what at any given point.
Why It's Cool: Inception is nobody's idea of an obscure movie, but this one makes the grade for sheer subtlety.
The film is about planting the seed of an idea, and that's exactly what this design does. Your mates will wake up the next morning and suddenly realise you have great taste in movies.
Where? Busted Tees - charmingly, the tee is called 'Dream Levels'
