10 best drinking video games

6. Any fishing game that uses a pole controller or Wii-mote

What it is:
It's fishing, and the more basic it is, the better. Our ultimate pick would be Sega's Dreamcast classic Sega Bass Fishing, currently being remade for an early 2008 Wii release. Until then, Wii offerings like Rapala Tournament Fishing, Hooked or even Fishing Master should work, though they don't have the same magic.

Why it's perfect:
Don't let ESPN fool you - fishing isn't a sport. It is a method of relaxation. And alcohol and relaxation go together like politicians and corruption. Plus, there's something about fishing games that tends to inspire camaraderie rather than competition, so there's an oddly high chance for legit, non-awkward male bonding here. Plus, the ambient sounds of the water and nature make it feel just a little more zen. At least, until someone hooks a big one and everyone in the room jumps up and starts screaming incredibly helpful instructions like "Reel it in!" and "Don't let the line break!"

Where does the booze go?
Everywhere. Sure, you could make someone pound a drink every time they land the biggest lunker. Or you could take turns, with each player catching three fish and then passing the rod, and make whoever lands the biggest fish or whose fish have the largest combined weight the winner. But to be honest, this one is best enjoyed when you freestyle. Just drink when it feels right and enjoy.

I was the founding Executive Editor/Editor in Chief here at GR, charged with making sure we published great stories every day without burning down the building or getting sued. Which isn't nearly as easy as you might imagine. I don't work for GR any longer, but I still come here - why wouldn't I? It's awesome. I'm a fairly average person who has nursed an above average love of video games since I first played Pong just over 30 years ago. I entered the games journalism world as a freelancer and have since been on staff at the magazines Next Generation and PSM before coming over to GamesRadar. Outside of gaming, I also love music (especially classic metal and hard rock), my lovely wife, my pet pig Bacon, Japanese monster movies, and my dented, now dearly departed '89 Ranger pickup truck. I pray sincerely. I cheer for the Bears, Bulls, and White Sox. And behind Tyler Nagata, I am probably the GR staffer least likely to get arrested... again.
