Xbox Live Arcade Sales Chart - 2/2/08 (News)

VGChartz reports that this week, Dreamcast shooter remake "Rez HD" broke all records we've had since the charts started. In just 3 days, it's already amassed $250,000 in sales, and beaten the the rest of the top-5 3 day debut games combined. Yes, it's that massive.

So what's next in store for Rez HD? Most likely alot more sales. Rez HD is well on it's way to eventually selling 500,000 units as projections would place this high of sales within it's first 18 months of sale.

Chessmaster LIVE also debuted rather strongly, despite selling in Rez HD's shadow. With almost 4,000 units sold, it's likely that a casual-selling chess game, such as CM Live could go on to do very well - even though it's at a $10 price point.

In other notable news, Undertow had a huge number of downloads activated this week. This should be the biggest week, with sales beginning to decend from now on. Expect about another 500,000 before it stops.

While Rez gets all of the fanfare, however, Metal Slug 3 finished it's first month of sale with 63,000 units. Since the charts started, this places it at #2 next to Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, with 88,000 units. However, that record won't last very long, as Rez HD should sell over 100,000 units it's first month.

"Our first-ever Game of the Year awards was a pretty straight forward deal. I asked all of the writers to submit a list of three games for each category and the three that showed up most in each category made it as a finalist. Once we had the list of finalists I asked each writer to go through and order the finalists and then tallied the vote. The one with the most points was named Game of the Year, the runner-up was named Not Quite Game of the Year. The game with the most votes for Worst Game of the Year received that dubious honor."

Super Mario Galaxy won Kotaku's Overall Game of the Year award. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune came as second, it won the Not Quite Game of the Year award. (Kotaku posted the overall results as a separate post, see the link at the Alternative Sources below for more details.)
Dec 21, 2007

December is the month of giving and, better yet, receiving. December is the month when sugarplum visions of $400 consoles and $60 games dance through your head. And, of course, December is the month when your loved ones usually just cheap out and buy you a gift card instead.

So long as that gift card is an online points card from Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo, however, you'll be alright. With so much downloadable content available for so little money, you could stretch a few ...
Nov 26, 2007

Upon first play, it's almost too easy to dismiss Undertow. This side-scrolling shooter featuring the usual, "left stick moves, right stick shoots" controls and absolutely tiny characters really doesn't make a dazzling first impression.

But give the game a chance, and it may just surprise you. On the surface, Undertow is a simple shooter, but under the waves is where you'll find out how much strategy is required to keep from drowning at this excellent multiplayer game.

OK, enough ...
Alongside today's release of XBLA Double Dragon, Microsoft has detailed the six new download titles heading to Xbox 360 "later this year."

To save our fingers the pain, here's the list (not in chronological order of release) via the magic of cut and paste:

Mad Tracks: This 3D racing party game from Load Inc. and D3Publisher recalls all the fun of playing with toy cars from childhood. Up to four players can race micro cars in a variety of gameplay modes in familiar settings such as a living ...

Independent developers Chair Entertainment (former Advent Rising developers) have announced their latest original IP game, with underwater conquest action title Undertow for Xbox Live Arcade, due for release this summer.

Powered by Unreal Engine 3 and including a full 15-level single player campaign as well as up to 16 player online battles, Undertow gives players the choice of being one of four unique, upgradeable unit types -- from fast and agile to large and powerful -- and taking part in conquest-style battles.

Players will score points by killing enemies, accomplishing team goals, and taking check points, with those points being used to later upgrade unit abilities.
Once again, humanity is on the verge of a watery demise, and this time not even Al Gore or a gilled Kevin Costner can save us. So what's a species to do when a race of aquatic aliens melts the polar icecaps and raises ocean levels in a vile attempt to turn the planet we keep all our pets and appliances on into a giant wading pool of doom?

Luckily, Captain Nemo and a few of his minions have survived the "wettening," as well as the Iron Marines; man's last, government-sanctioned, hope. Can this ...
