It seems that despite the mixed-reactions to the original, the trilogy will continue.

The post also suggests that such sequels will tout a 4 player co-operative mode – a feature that was initially hinted-at but never delivered.."
Too Human would be a severely underwhelming game even if it weren't for its ten-year-long development or its outspoken creator. Awkward combat, a braindead camera and a laundry list of bad design choices make this title plainly mediocre. There's a solid game buried beneath it all, and determined gamers may find something to like here, but everyone else should steer clear of Too Human.

Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb posted the rankings to his blog on Sunday, showing that the Mirror's Edge demo was the 12th most popular game for Xbox Live members. Its full-game counterpart was nowhere to be seen on the top 20 list."

"It has some gems in there, but they're hard to find," he said. "I quite like the combat and felt it was accessible, but I just… If I got my hands on the game, I'd rip out a few of the things they did and just concentrate on the core."

"It just slightly forgot about what it was trying to be," Molyneaux continued. "In a way, it tried to be something it was not. It felt - and again, I thought it did some things really well - that there was something slightly off about it. I'm sure that Dennis Dyack is going to come and kill me now!"

Joystiq turned on Too Human this morning (no, really) and found an auto update. Hoping it might have shortened the Valkyrie death sequence, they immediately unequipped all weapons and armor and ran naked (figuratively) into battle, only to be faced with the same 15.5-second consequence. They also thought the menu screen loaded faster, but that is all apparently just in their heads.

In a forum post this morning, Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack revealed that the update "fixed some connectivity issues and was done prior to release. It does not contain any balance or gameplay changes." Better luck next time.

After so much hype and so many years in development, many were surprised by the lackluster critical reception for Silicon Knights' Too Human. Count among the surprised Epic Games' Cliff "Don't call me CliffyB anymore" Bleszinski, who defended the game from its harshest critics in a recent Giant Bomb reader review.

Bleszinski says he found the game more engrossing than either BioShock or Call of Duty 4, pouring 16 straight hours into it on his first sit down and readying for a second playthrough after a 42-hour quest. While admitting that the story "isn't God's gift to writing," Bleszinski still insists it compares favorably to a lot of other video games. His main beef, though, is with critics who derided the game's combat as too simple simply because they weren't willing to delve into what Bleszinski sees as some complex strategic depth. "It will require some attention to learn," he warns, "If this is too much to ask, do not fret. There is always the Wii." Ouch!
Silicon Knight's action/role playing game is now available for Europeans. Will it garner a similar reaction in this territory?

The one thing that really gets on my nerves in Too Human is the awful, random camera system that does deliver on a cinematic appearance, but adds pointless difficulty into the game just because you can't see your enemy. If they removed the awkward analogue stick sword control and just but a bog standard camera system into the game, we would of had a much more enjoyable game."

SPOnG recently caught up with Silicon Knights founder and director, Denis Dyack - game director of Too Human, arguably one of the biggest Xbox 360 games of 2008 and a title that many seem to think has been stuck somewhere in 'development hell' since the original PlayStation era of the late 1990s.

While, like many, SPOnG can't wait to get stuck into his game. Dyack was, if anything, way too sensitive over any perceived criticisms and - as expected - outspoken in his criticism of 'the preview process' in the games industry and the machinations of fan debates in open forums such as NeoGAF.

"The whole idea that this game has been in development for over ten years is just a complete myth," Dyack told SPOnG. "We have tried to say that for the last four years, but nobody seems to want to listen, so you would a service to everyone by saying that, once we hooked up with Microsoft and started collaborating is when the REAL development of Too Human +started."

"Some games get so hyped up, gamers actually believe that when they get this game it's going to cure cancer," stated Dyack. "So actually releasing a demo brings everyone back down to earth. But with Too Human it was just so skewed across the board, we had to say hey this is our new game, it works really well, it's really different, it's a genre bender, and we felt we had to release a demo or we were dead. So far it looks like to be the right choice in this case."

Denis Dyack reveals that "There won't be any more engine re-writes or anything like that".

Too Human has had a troubled development, but it will finally arrive in the UK on August 29 (August 19 in the US). This is all well and good, but what about the next two games in the planned trilogy? Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a recent press event in London Dyack confirmed that the plan is still to make a trilogy of games and that the next game won't take so long to complete.

"It's certainly going to be faster than the first game. The whole idea of doing the trilogy was it was meant for the 360. Plans are still on track, nothing has changed." stated Dyack. "We're not announcing anything on the second or third game here. We're here to talk about the first. But people should be fairly happy at the development process from here on in. There won't be any more engine re-writes or anything like that. So it should be a lot smoother waters."

Gods and goddesses still rule over mankind, but enhance their divine powers through cybernetic upgrades. ...

What the heck... ALL CLASSES?

Okay so I'm in the camp that was not sure about the game when I started playing. But after replaying it and getting used to its controls and camera, I've spent several hours loving it... particularly since I learnt to unlock ALL THE CLASSES in the demo.

I was immensely disappointed when I initially loaded the demo that I couldn't play as all the classes. But armed with the knowledge that Silicon Knights has a penchant for hiding secrets a plenty in their titles, along with Denis Dyack dropping heavy hints over at Gamespot, I decided to hit Google to see what I was missing...

The cheeky buggers at Silicon Knights had inserted an Easter Egg to unlock ALL CLASSES in the demo!

We've placed Dimascus' instructional video at the bottom of the page... but if you'd prefer a layman's guide in the most straightforward of ten steps, look right below...

Legendary head of Lionhead Studios Peter Molyneux has said he feels sorry for Denis Dyack, the developer of upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive Too Human.

He told VideoGamer.com: "I feel sorry for Denis Dyack because you know, I think a few things were said wrong, there was that really unfortunate showing at E3 a few years ago. Everyone got on the bandwagon of saying things about Too Human. Now I've played it and, you know, it's a good game. It doesn't deserve a lot of that harsh criticism. But as soon as something starts it's very hard to turn the tide and pull it back again. Unless you've got something in your back pocket to say "Ahaa, but what about this?" then it's really really tough."
Games such as Oblivion have had their replay value increased with DLC, and it seems Denis Dyack, CEO of Silicon Knights, is a fan of the whole downloadable content scene."
One assumption that everyone makes in regards of Too Human is how long it took to develop, starting on the Playstation 1 and finishing up on the Xbox 360 with ten years of development time. We thought it was about time we got to the bottom of this and asked Denis himself."

Kotaku writes: "The OFLC's classification database is packed full of surprises, both sad and delightful. The most recent of these was not one, but two ratings for Silicon Knights' Too Human. Why would a game get two (or more) ratings? Most of the time it's because a game is released on multiple platforms, but not simultaneously, so the later release has to be classified separately.

However, this is not the case for the Xbox 360-only Too Human.

1) Australia has the same version of Too Human as everyone else;
2) The OFLC classified two versions of the game, with the M-rated one sent to retail and;
3) Both entries are marked "Multi Platform". Does this mean a PC version is on the way?"
It seems as long as the date remains 11-22-2005, those classes will be unlocked.

"I was basically calling out people who had no way of assessing the game," Dyack said. "All I wanted to point out to people is that this is so ridiculous."

"Both recent and early impressions of Silicon Knights' "Too Human" have said that the upcoming Xbox 360 title's loot, skill tree and combat systems are similar to that of past "Diablo" titles. Some previews even proclaimed that "Too Human" is "Diablo III" before the Blizzard game was even announced.

He denied having heard much about it..."

Silicon Knights boss Denis Dyack believes halving Too Human co-op from four players to two "was just the right thing to do".

His decision hit the headlines at the recent Microsoft showcase in San Francisco, prompting numerous suggestions that the ambitious and expensive game had bitten off more than it could chew.

Microsoft has begun chest thumping over it's 2008 line-up of games, saying its invention of Xbox has led to a "Christmas Eve like never before" every week of the year.

In an update on its official website the company cites Gears of War 2 (Nov 2008), Ninja Gaiden 2 (June 6), Too Human (August 29), Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise (Sep 2008), Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (Holiday 2008), Fable 2 (2008) and Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One (out now).

It says: "It's going to be very tough sleeping at night with this amazing haul coming so soon."

"We completely threw out the Unreal Engine and focused on something that would work for what we're doing, and it's been fantastic," said Dyack, speaking to CVG at Microsoft's spring showcase last week.

GameSpot writes:

The rumour mill was in overdrive today that Silicon Knights founder and president Denis Dyack was thinking of resigning as president to concentrate on the more creative side of his job.

The rumour started after GameDaily.Biz printed an article titled 'Denis Dyack To Step Down As Silicon Knights President' based on an interview in which Dyack was quoted as saying, "I've been involved in a lot of IP creation within Silicon Knights and as the company grows, I have to look at whether I want to continue to be president and director, and I'm leaning towards staying creative¿So in the end, as the company grows, for my role I'll probably hire someone to be my boss and help run the company."

The news then spread to various other gaming Web sites, including Joystiq as 'Dyack May Step Down as Head of Silicon Knights,' and Kotaku as 'Silicon Knights: Dyack Stepping Down?'

However Dyack has told GameSpot that he has no intention of quitting as president. He said, "I was as surprised to see this as everyone else. I am not stepping down."

"The engine is built to be scalable as well, so if another platform does come out, we're not worried about it," he told journalists at Microsoft Game Studio's recent showcase event.

Dyack thinks that Silicon Knights will be able to release all three Too Human games on the current Xbox 360 console.

While the multiplayer aspect may be more limited-at least for this entry in the planned trilogy-that doesn't mean looting droid corpses for an Angelic Skull Splitter Staff of Rising Bellow will be any less fun."
After years of High-Def in the living room being a hazy concept that really only affected A/V aficionados, the more technologically inclined, and the affluent, these videogame machines have made HD Gaming as simple and affordable as "plug n' play." But as with any consumer device, the hardware, for all its potential, is just that - untapped potential. What really brings out the true worth of the machine is the software that goes into it, and how it utilizes the power built into its system architecture.
It is in that spirit that we bring you this interesting tidbit: Too Human's placeholder release date on the Gamestop website has been moved from May to August."
While the game has been in the works for practically forever, generating tons of press and dozens of previews (like this one), no one really seems to know much about Too Human. So we came up with this handy list to answer all the questions you ought to be asking about one of the most controversial games ...

Too Human seems to have been in development since the dawn of time -- almost as long as Duke Nukem Forever -- yet Silicon Knights (Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem) has continued to push its pseudo hack-and-slash RPG hybrid in order to bring it exclusively to Microsoft's Xbox 360.

As with any game stuck so long in development limbo, expectations for Too Human are predictably astronomical and critical eyes and tongues (predominantly those belonging to PS3 fanboys) are even more sharply attuned to ongoing glimpses ahead of the game's eventual release.
It looks like we could finally have a release date for Silicon Knights long-awaited action effort Too Human, which has been dated at retail for this May.

US retailer GameStop says that the Xbox 360 exclusive is scheduled for a May 6 release in its weekly e-mail update. Perhaps the lawsuit with Epic didn't affect it much after all, then.

The RPG-come-hack-n-slasher is the first part of a planned trilogy from the developer and should be one of the biggest Xbox games of 2008 (provided it's not ...
In its weekly newsletter, EB Games solicits pre-orders for Silicon Knights' Too Human, claiming the game is shipping May 6. The entire text reads as follows:

"Brush up on Your Norse Mythology

Claiming up front that your game is going to be a trilogy in the tradition of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings is a bold statement. After all, Weekend at Bernie's only made it to two movies. Too Human has an intriguing plot that may very well live up to that claim. Play as a cybernetically enhanced Norse god as you defend humanity from evil machines. Ships May 6 for Xbox 360. Pre-order online now or reserve at your local EB Games or GameStop."

The latest battle began with a Silicon Knights protective order that sought to ensure Epic would not be allowed to view Too Human source code to judge how much, if any, Unreal Engine 3 code remained.
