First games stole from films in early licenses like Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then horror films stole from games, most obviously in the ‘works’ of Uwe Boll like House of the Dead and BloodRayne.

These are the genre’s defining relics. Some are responsible for the very creation of the zombie mythos, others adapted and advanced it, while the rest simply encapsulate it so exquisitely that they must be experienced.
It looks like the only way to get your hands on the motion controlled version of Resident Evil 5 will be to repurchase the game when it's released as the Alternative Edition next year. Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi explained that the size of the new content would be 'too big to be DLC'. The Alternative Edition also contains a new 2 hour scenario surrounding Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. There will also be a new game mode, teased Takeuchi.

Speaking with VG247 during its latest podcast, Kramer stated that currently the firm is discussing the possibility of releasing more downloadable content for the title, and is looking to the community for ideas and suggestions.

"We're talking about it. I don't know if you have seen some of the threads on Capcom Unity, but questions came up on whether we are going to do any more," he said. "I asked what people would want to see and that spawned a thread that was literally hundreds of posts long and had tens of thousands of views."
The fans either want a port/remake or a completely new sequel to the Outbreak series. There's a multitude of links to petitions and even avatar and signature images to help promote the cause further. Resident Evil 5 was all about partners and teamwork but a modern Outbreak would be fantastic. Something along the lines of a more serious and scary Left 4 Dead would be great. So check out the thread and give them your support."

Paul W.S. Anderson's next Resident Evil film will not be releasing in September as previously stated, but a little earlier on August 27th. Apparently Anderson who is both the writer and director has been researching nearly every 3D film to hit the big screen to be ready for his first foray into the 3rd dimension of cinema. Our guess is that he needs to find some ways to incorporate 3D scenes without forcing them. Since Afterlife is supposed to be a reboot, we'll just pretend Extinction never happen and pray this film stays at least a mile from the source material.

IndustryGamers recently reported on new findings from the folks at EEDAR. The firm's latest report, revealed this week during the [a]list Summit by Ayzenberg Group, showed that the top 10 selling games this year through June have been mostly dominated by older titles like Wii Fit or Mario Kart Wii. There were a few exceptions, and Capcom's blockbuster Resident Evil 5 was one of the big ones. The game is second in sales this year so far, only to Wii Fit. In fact, it's sold close to 2 million in the U.S. and around 5 million globally, making it the most successful entry in the franchise yet.

So what did Capcom do differently this time? Besides the fact that they made a very good game, the marketing team really kicked it up a notch prior to launch, and this was critical to the title's success, EEDAR points out.

Paul W.S. Anderson tells Shock Till You Drop that Resident Evil: Afterlife will be his 4th RE film, but not a sequel. Instead the series will be revamped and start as a whole new trilogy. Afterlife will have a bigger budget than the previous films and will see the return of old characters and new ones. The film will also be joining that whole 3D fad that decided to rear its head up from the 70's.

"I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films, "he said. "And we've been very lucky where it's a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I'm really excited we're doing it [in 3-D] and we're using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don't regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise."

Our guess is that Paul will take the Fast And Furious approach; by having a film that ignores previous events and rewrites the series history. This is good news for die hard Resident Evil fans. Maybe, just maybe we can have a RE film that doesn't stray so far from the source material. We're looking at you Extinction.
Making fun of them isn’t. It’s really, really easy, actually. From heroes who get infinite do-overs to supporting characters who “die” only to resurface at the nick of time down the road, videogames might be the only medium in which the audience feels surprised, and perhaps even cheated, if a dead character isn’t magically brought back to life. ...

The highlight is the release of the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack, and having had my hands on it for a while now, I must say it is rather good. There's also new Guitar Hero: World Tour tracks and Sonic Unleashed downloadable content. Here is the full Xbox Live Marketplace Update for Thursday 9th April 2009:

Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack
Price: 800 Microsoft Points
Size: 328 MB
Description: The long-awaited Mythic Map Pack drops into Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Investigate Orbital's abandoned hallways - before it was evacuated, the Quito Space Tether was heralded as the "Civil Engineering Monument of the Millennium." Witness Assembly, where Scarab hulls loom overhead, being decontaminated in preparation for the city-sized Lekgolo colonies that will breathe life into the massive metal husks. An excavation site surrounded by deadly Forerunner defenses, the mysteries of Sandbox are hidden high above, deep below, and right before your eyes. There are no refunds for this item.

The code for Resident Evil 5's versus mode feature is small, tiny for two competitive online modes. Seeing a 1.8MB file for Xbox 360 owners and a 351KB download on the PS3 led to discussion that the versus mode was not a new feature with its own budget as a Capcom previously commented.

Capcom Vice President Christian Svensson stands his ground and says, "Keys are 100K or less. It is not a key. We have said in the past, it uses assets from the disc (like levels, models, audio, etc.) but the code is new and does not exist on the disc."
And sod everyone who says it's about the journey, not the destination. The following games all take you on a ...

After what felt like an eternity of playtime, we've run into an issue. Our saved data has vanished, completely. Weapons, bonus unlocks, progress and additional modes are no longer available on our 'veteran' save data. We had at least three game completions under the pair's belt and several maxed-out weapons."

"We obviously know that Resident Evil 5 is selling like hot cakes through the world, but GfK Institute permits us to discover more precisely about French sales of the software. Thus, we learn that 110,555 units of Resident Evil 5 have already been sold through the country, which represents the half of the overall number of available copies in France.

Without any surprise, the PS3 sells better with 62,040 units sold, front of the Xbox 360 with its 40,135 games. On PS3, it's about 5,000 collector editions that ended in the arms of bloody greedy gamers, while 3,200 gone to the 360. In overall, Resident Evil 5 generated €7.7 millions of benefits in France."

"IFIS (International Financial Information Service) recently pulled data for analysts and their predictions of Capcom stock in Japan, and the vast majority of them placed favor on the house that Mega Man built. But what about the reviews? It is striking that the reviews are all different. What in some reviews a positive point is, is in another review negative. The lowest review score is a 6 while the highest one is a 10, that is at least strange to mention. Is the game just a hit or a blunder? Read the different reviews and look at the comparision video of the game between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360."

"Capcom's Resident Evil 5 has sold almost 400,000 units in its first week on sale in Japan, with the PlayStation 3 version hitting the number one spot with 312,000 unit sales. The Xbox 360 version also performed well at number three, with 79,000 units sold.

Known in Japan as Biohazard, the first week totals for the latest entry in the long-running series are higher than for Resident Evil 4. However, they are significantly lower than the 1 million unit + debuts of Resident Evil 2 and 3 on the original PlayStation."

Gamezine: Capcom's Resident Evil body part stunt goes slightly wrong. Police are called and limbs go missing.

To mark the launch of Resident Evil 5, Capcom Europe held a competition in Central London this morning that involved competitors collecting bloody hidden body parts.

A winner was crowned, Steve Long, a 26-year-old IT consultant from North London. His prize will consist of a holiday for two to Africa.

However, the publicity stunt went wrong due to a number of the replica body parts going missing.

The game's producer Jun Takeuchi recently said, "There is no racial element to it at all," and Capcom's Chris Kramer expands on that point, stating to the WSJ that the game adopts an "anti-colonialist" stance. Mr. Kramer is referring to white protagonist Chris Redfield, shooting his way through RE5's African non-zombies, and the imagery it represents with regards to traditional Western colonialism on the continent.
