VG247: Capcom US comms boss Chris Kramer has called Resident Evil 5 a "new direction" for the franchise, and said that previous games, characters and storylines in the series should be seen as "act one" of the series.
Capcom officially announced today that Resident Evil 5 has shipped more than 4 million units, highest in the Resident Evil series.

Today in Los Angeles Capcom hosted a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross to support the release of Resident Evil 5. The event was hosted in the heart of Hollywood at the World of Wonder Gallery where hundreds of gamers gathered to donate blood, get some free RE5 swag, and a chance to win copies of the game and limited edition RE5 Xbox 360 consoles. The Wall Street Journal's Jamin Brophy-Warren has a piece today exploring the racial connotations some are seeing in Capcom's latest effort, Resident Evil 5. The game's producer Jun Takeuchi recently said, "There is no racial element to it at all," and Capcom's Chris Kramer expands on that point, stating to the WSJ that the game adopts an "anti-colonialist" stance. Mr. Kramer is referring to white protagonist Chris Redfield, shooting his way through RE5's African non-zombies, and the imagery it represents with regards to traditional Western colonialism on the continent.
GameStop has announced it's midnight launch plans for Resident Evil 5 tonight, starting at 10pm. Across the US, GameStop will be hosting its "Outbreak '09" event, where you can play dead and participate in a "Dress up Dead" costume contest. Capcom's Resident Evil 5 will be available for purchase at midnight.
