Kotaku's 2007 Games of the Year and Overall Game of the Year (Vampire's Rain [import])

Kotaku's Brian Crecente writes:

"Our first-ever Game of the Year awards was a pretty straight forward deal. I asked all of the writers to submit a list of three games for each category and the three that showed up most in each category made it as a finalist. Once we had the list of finalists I asked each writer to go through and order the finalists and then tallied the vote. The one with the most points was named Game of the Year, the runner-up was named Not Quite Game of the Year. The game with the most votes for Worst Game of the Year received that dubious honor."

Super Mario Galaxy won Kotaku's Overall Game of the Year award. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune came as second, it won the Not Quite Game of the Year award. (Kotaku posted the overall results as a separate post, see the link at the Alternative Sources below for more details.)

Microsoft today announced that "Vampire Rain," the frighteningly entertaining Xbox 360 title developed by Artoon, has gone gold and will be shipping to stores on July 3 with an estimated retail price of $59.99.

"Vampire Rain" combines stealth, survival horror and shooter aspects of your favorite games as you lead a black ops unit to secretly eliminate one of the deadliest supernatural enemies you will ever face. Eurogamer writes: "Midway has decided GTA rival This is Vegas is better off in 2009, according to its latest financial statement.

The PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 game had been expected this autumn, but no reason was given for the delay. Perhaps the move was made to unclog what interim Midway boss Matt Booty called "possibly our strongest holiday line-up in recent years" in the money report."

As a de facto den of indulgence where long nights have been known to stretch into even longer days, Las Vegas doesn't necessarily encourage punctuality. With Midway Games seeking to recapture the total Vegas experience in its upcoming This is Vegas, it's not entirely surprising that the game won't be sticking to its originally announced release date.

Always enjoy responsibly.

A Midway representative confirmed for GameSpot today that This is Vegas has been delayed to 2009 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. However, it will be appearing in playable form at the E3 Media & Business Summit.

Last week Midway announced a new title, This is Vegas, set to release later this year. The open-world game looks to be a Grand Theft Auto knock-off with perhaps a bit of a satirical flair.

While perusing the press release, GamePolitics couldn't help wondering whether Midway execs had bowed to political and/or legal pressure over the game's title. GamePolitics readers may recall that in March of 2007 the site covered a dust-up between Las Vegas city officials and Midway over the phrase Only in Vegas.

Surfer Girl on Star Wars MMO, Boom Blox (This is Vegas)

Surfer Girl says that the next year's Star Wars MMO, not being developed by BioWare or Sony Online Entertainment, will launch simultaneously for PC and consoles alongside the debut of the first Star Wars TV series in fall 2009, of which the storylines of the game will tie into.

According to her, LucasArts already have a second online title planned that has nothing to do with Star Wars.

Sounds like a meatier version of The Sims - "one we'd actually play".

There's an original game in the works up at Surreal's Seattle studio that's looking to put the sin back in Sin City. Prepare yourself for a different approach to the open-world game.
