"The February 2009 issue of Game Developer magazine, the sister print publication to Gamasutra.com and the leading U.S. trade publication for the video game industry, has shipped to print/digital subscribers and is available from the Game Developer Digital service in both subscription and single-issue formats.

The cover feature for the issue is an exclusive and frank postmortem of Secret Level's action game Golden Axe: Beast Rider. The article offers insight on the challenges and struggles Secret Level faced while developing the expensive, flawed title. The piece is described as follows..."

The first details on Sega and Secret Level's long announced Golden Axe update have been revealed in the latest issue of PSM3.

If you're looking for a straight update you're probably going to be disappointed, because the classic bruiser has been pretty much completely re-imagined in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 update.

First off, you now play as one Amazonian hero, the scantily clad Tyris Flare, instead of the original game's trio of fantasy stereotypes. Gillus the dwarf and Ax Battler are still in the game, says PSM3, but only as supporting cast.

Recent reports from Xboxygen.com and Kotaku.com, have led people to believe that Golden Axe: Beast Rider had become an Xbox 360 exclusive. However this is not the case.

PSU.com has contacted Sega directly and received word that Secret Level is working on both an Xbox 360 and a PS3 version.

When asked if Secret Level had dropped the PS3 version of Golden Axe, Sega's Danny Chiu responded stating, "Not true, it's coming to PS3 as well."

So that should clear things up, everyone can expect both a PS3 version and Xbox 360 version next year when the game hits stores late in 2008.
While it had been previously announced a year or so ago, news on the game completely vanished and many people assumed it had been canceled. With the upcoming piece in Play, at least gamers worries should be quelled.
Golden Axe on Live Arcade is actually based on the original arcade version, rather than the more likely Genesis port from back in the day. You'll notice little things that give it away, such as the bodies of minions you slay lying on the ground rather ...
