360 - Dead Rising - Quartermann: Gears of War and Dead Rising "Without spoiling everything, Quartermann expects to see new downloadable content for Gears of War in the very near future, but that's not the best part. Those pesky achievements that require "ranked play" to unlock? Word is Epic wants to get rid of the "ranked" requirement. Will Microsoft play ball?

Is the Zombie Apocalypse drawing nigh? Probably not, but what if players had the ability to fight the onslaught of zombies in Capcom's Dead Rising with a partner over Xbox Live? Quartermann hints that an upcoming platinum version of Dead Rising will have an online co-op mode."

360 - Dead Rising - Capcom Didn't Want Lost Planet, Dead Rising at First Despite how well received both Dead Rising and Lost Planet have been, turns out Capcom wasn't exactly sold on the games when they first came to the table. Longtime Capcom designer Kenji Inafune -- yes, the same guy who came up with Mega Man -- has evolved into more of a producer these days and was responsible for selling Capcom management on both games. They didn't bite, he says during an incredibly candid interview with Capcom community mogul Brian Dunn...

Let the haters and the old ladies complain about how those newfangled video computer games teach us to be killers; we've always taken the view that violent games are a pressure valve for blowing off steam in a harmless way. Don't believe it? Play something fierce and bloody the next time you're in a really bad mood, and then try telling us you didn't feel better afterward. But why stop there? If games can keep you from climbing a clock tower and expressing your inner pain in the form of ... » Read More

360 - Dead Rising - Microsoft (not) buying Capcom? The official story: "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation." -- Microsoft rep. As for Capcom...see below

What we heard: It's no secret that Microsoft wants to break into the Japanese game market--badly. When the Xbox 360 launched in late 2005, it allocated a third of its launch stock to the island nation--where half of it gathered dust on store shelves while bored shopkeepers stood by picking their noses.

Microsoft has also tried the software approach, hiring Japanese game-design legends such as Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and Space Channel mastermind Tetsuya Mizuguchi to make Xbox 360 exclusives. Unfortunately, the latter's first effort, Ninety-Nine Nights, fizzled on both sides of the Pacific. However, the former's debut, Blue Dragon, fared as well as an Xbox 360 game can in Japan, given the platform's limited base. It sold more than 80,000 units in its first four days on the Japanese market last fall.

Still, Microsoft hasn't spent tens of millions in Japan to eke out modest hits. So the fact that it might opt to acquire a major Japanese publisher seems perfectly plausible, given its near-bottomless bank account. Thus was spawned this week's top rumor, which had Microsoft buying Capcom, the developer-publisher behind the Resident Evil series, outright.

Sure, it makes sense. Capcom has made two critically acclaimed Xbox 360 games, Dead Rising and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. (Look for the latter's review on GameSpot later today.) And Microsoft is flush with cash--$35 billion in reserves as of last summer, according to Reuters. So why not drop a relatively small chunk of change to take on Sony and Nintendo on their home turf?

However, plausibility does not equal reality. And in this case, the reality is that, for the time being, Microsoft is not buying Capcom. Apparently this latest orgy of speculation is an ancient rumor, resurrected by a Japanese blog pr...

360 - Dead Rising - Dead Rising sequels likely Capcom's Mark Beaumont has said that the company will produce Dead Rising games "for years to come".

The original game, an Xbox 360 exclusive, has shipped over one million copies worldwide as of 31st December 2006.

Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz, Beaumont attributed some of the game's success to punters' willingness "to take more of an experiment in what games they'll try" at the start of a hardware cycle.

Others would probably point to the 360's shortfall in first-party titles along the back straight of 2006, and the game's superb critical reception.

"Bringing out Dead Rising has allowed us to establish a new franchise that we can use for years to come," Beaumont added, which ought to give those Resident Evil slackers something to think about. Come on, what's happening with number five?

360 - Dead Rising - No Crackdown in Germany Some bad news today for the people in Germany. Real Time World's Crackdown probably won't be coming to Germany. The official rating company in Germany, USK, hasn't given a rating to Crackdown, plus some online German gameshops like Amazon have deleted Crackdown from their assortiment.

This is not the first time that an Xbox 360 game has been banned from Germany. Gears of War and Dead Rising haven't seen light in Germany either. Microsoft hasn't responded to this news, yet.

The game will be released in US and other European countries on February 23. Plus there will be a demo available on January 18th.

360 - Dead Rising - PES 6 vs FIFA 07 comes to a head Despite the on-going debate currently raging in the forums as to which game is better, the general concensus, according to the charts at least, is that PES 6 is the champion, finally overtaking FIFA for the first time in, well, ever.

After less than one week of the games being released, there is a clear winner, for week one at least. PES outsold Dead Rising "with ease", though FIFA "easily" held on to 2nd place. And before you all go screaming blind that I'm being overly biased and missing the obvious fact, I am aware that Dead Rising was released on only one platform, not the three that PES was, hence PES easily beating Dead Rising. Nonetheless, it shows just how many it has sold.

360 - Dead Rising - Konami Breaks 360 Records In UK Charts The release of Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (aka Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007) has seen Konami finally overtake Electronic Arts' FIFA series as the most popular soccer action game in the UK. The game experienced more than 23 percent more sales than the recent FIFA 07, despite being sold on significantly less formats.

Despite this, sales for the PlayStation 2 version were slightly below that for Pro Evolution Soccer 5, with the difference being made up by the Xbox 360 version. Despite controversy over excised content, compared to the PlayStation 2 game, the Xbox 360 version recorded the highest first week sales of any 360 game so far in the UK ¿ easily beating previous record holder Dead Rising.

360 - Dead Rising - G.O.W. banned in Germany A few months ago there was trouble over Dead Rising in Germany, getting into trouble for its excessive violence. Now it appears that Epic's upcoming horror-shooter, Gears of War, will be banned from the German market.
German USK, responsible for videogame ratings, refused to give the game a rating, despite several submissions from Microsoft. Microsoft and Epic decided not to make a less-violent version for the German market because it would "fundamentally change the gameplay", resulting in compatibility issues with different versions on Xbox Live.
