Crysis ready for consoles

[Multi] Far Cry creator confident in PS3 and 360 port

Monday 9 October 2006
Crysis, the spiritual successor to Far Cry and one of the most visually impressive games shown at this year's E3, could make the shift from PC to next-gen consoles, according to developer Crytek.

"I don't think there would be any problem," reckons lead artist Michael Khaimzon, contrary to the response given to GamesRadar by Crytek's president, Cevat Yerli, who stated, "It's PC only".

"We have enough power here to be able to do such a thing. It's just a matter of making the decision," Khaimzon told GamesIndustry.biz, adding that "it would be interesting for us to do stuff on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360".

Publisher Electronic Arts would surely be keen to make the most of such a stunning game, although Khaimzon points out that such a project could require compromises.

"We would just have to see how much of a sacrifice to the game we'd have to make, or whether there would be a sacrifice at all. Maybe we could find a way to make the game look exactly the same as it does on PC on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3."

However, Khaimzon underlines the fact that Crytek is currently working towards a PC exclusive release of Crysis: "I don't know of any official plans to [bring Crysis to consoles]. I know there are rumours and talk but I couldn't say anything concrete."

We contacted EA for an official word on the matter and they told us: "No comment". It seems we'll just have to wait to see what happens.
