The heat of the PS3 is set to rise with the release of Alone in the Dark:Inferno later this year. Atari have released a statement saying that the PS3 version is set to be the ultimate experience for Alone in the dark with its many improvements.

The PS3 version does stay true the original storyline and you are still playing as Edward Carnby.

So what makes this version the ultimate one then? Well lets take a look…
Even we here at That Gaming Site admit the controls could use some work! Atari has taunted us with a patch that may never make it to the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game! Instead of waiting for the day that may never come we have found a way to make your experience with the controls a little more tolerable!"

"Eden Games is making some much needed control, camera and inventory changes to "Alone in the Dark" before it arrives on PlayStation 3.

These changes are in direct response to criticisms of the Xbox 360 version. At the Leipzig Games Convention, Eurogamer reported news of a patch so Xbox 360 owners could enjoy the same changes.

While checking out the tweaked "Alone in the Dark" in a San Francisco hotel yesterday, game designer Emile Morel couldn't explicitly promise such a patch was coming."
After endless losses, Atari has posted a net income of $3.5 million for its first quarter. The release of Alone in the Dark was a big factor.

A couple weeks ago French publisher Infogrames reported its own first quarter fiscal results, revealing a 91 percent rise in sales, which was driven in large part by a "strong recovery" of the U.S. business (i.e. Infogrames' subsidiary Atari). Today, Atari announced its own fiscal results, and Infogrames wasn't kidding: Atari posted a profit of $3.5 million for the quarter, a vast improvement from the net loss of $11.9 million during the same period last year."

"The positive review scores continue to come in and marketing support is scheduled to run through to the end of August," Atari product manager Ben Walker told MCV. "Our target now is to build upon the start and keep Alone in the Dark selling through-out the summer"

We found Alone in the Dark to be one of the most disappointing games of the year so far, scoring only 6/10 despite much early promise and plenty of good ideas"
There comes a point in Alone in the Dark, about 80% in, where Eden Studios pulls a very cheap trick. It artificially boosts the longevity of a game perilously close to the wrong side of the six hour mark by featuring a root-killing collect-a-thon, similar to Zelda: Wind Waker's Triforce shard hunt. For one brief moment we caught sight of the game we were promised. The company said that it's happy with UK reviews of AITD, but refused to comment when asked about the legal rumours that have started appearing on the web.

"We're happy with the review scores in the UK," a spokesperson explained. "We believe the game speaks for itself."

Kotaku summarises: "This week, the following events took place: 1. We got a bunch of tips telling us that the Xbox 360 version of Alone in the Dark had turned up on BitTorrent sites. 2. Scandinavian games site GameReactor were one of the first to review Alone in the Dark. They gave it 3/10. Ouch. However, they then promptly pulled the review, and accusations of shady dealings were levelled against the site by Atari, who said that press copies had only been sent out the day before (the review has since been reinstated, and the 3/10 stands). Odd, seeing as many other European publications also had reviews go live this week, but whatever. 3. German site 4Players reviews the game. Gives it 68%. Then is threatened with legal action by Atari because, yes, Atari had no idea how the site got a copy of the game."

The german videogame site 4players.de reviewed the new 'Alone in the Dark' game and gave 68%. As we know that's quite a low score and influences your decision to buy the game or not. 4players said that 'Alone in the Dark' has a lame story and bad dialogue besides some technical issues like clipping and shitty artificial intelligence.
Atari wasn't happy to hear that and decided to threaten 4players to force them to take the review offline. Atari says that the review is based on a pirate downloaded version and is only set online to make profit through clicks. Atari wants to sue 4players about 50.000 Euros; if they do not take the review offline.

Hit the jump to know all about this unbelievable story!

"The past few weeks of videogame publisher drama have been for the most part dedicated to the dispute between Tecmo and their former Rockstar/Director Tomonobu Itagaki, however Tecmo will need to move over and make room for another old school publisher.

German videogame site 4players.de claims to be involved in apparent legal battle with Atari stemming from the sites review of "Alone in the Dark", a multiplatform horror/action game published by Atari in June of 2008.

Keeping in mind that the original article is in German, and it is well beyond the "normal" business hours we would utilize to obtain a comment from Atari, we were able to loosely interpret the following information from the public complaint aired on the German gaming site:"
In fact his detractors hate his work so much that most of them have never watched any of it.

So in the interests of scientific endeavor, we picked up three Boll DVDs and commited ourselves to watching them all in one night. Does Boll deserve the vitriol he so readily receives from the gaming community? Read on and find out. ...

You can skip boring parts of movies. Why can't you skip boring parts of games?

Eden Games, the developers of "Alone in the Dark," think you should be able to skip ahead.

You won't be able to see the game's "true ending" unless you complete a certain amount of the game, but you can skip large parts of the storyline (and gameplay) all you want.

That's not the only casual-targeted feature that Eden Games and Atari are implementing into "Alone in the Dark." The on-screen control indicators are the product of that same philosophy, depicting animations and images that guarantee that you know how to play.

I don't see myself using either, but to a less experienced gamer, it could mean the world...

Since inventing the survival-horror genre 16 years ago, the Alone in the Dark series has been defined mainly by creeping around in dimly lit corridors and hoping something didn't lurch out of the shadows to gnaw your face off. The creators of the new Alone in the Dark, however, want you to know that crawling through claustrophobic spaces won't be the focus this time around - and to hammer that point home, they'll literally tear those spaces ...

'Speaking to videogaming247, Atari has just confirmed that Alone in the Dark will hit Europe on June 20 in Europe and June 24 in the US.

The game has been put back from May to ensure the game's as good as it can be.

"The game has been delayed to allow Eden Games - obviously, they're an Atari-owned studio - to polish the game to an even higher standard. Wwe want to ddeliver the best possible experience to gamer, because we have a remarkable product.

"We've been getting an incredible response from the people that have seen it in demos. We'll soon be supplying code to the market."'

"Just May for now, I'm afraid," said an Atari rep, speaking to vidoegaming247 this morning, "but we don't have a specific date I can give you now, unfortunately. In the next month we should have a better idea."

The spokesperson gave an emphatic "yes" when asked if the survival horror game would make its launch. Which is hella good news."

VideoGamer.com reports that Atari's quarter three financial results have revealed a number of new titles currently lined-up for release in the publishers coming fiscal year (ending March 31, 2009):

"The biggest is one we already know about, Alone in the Dark, which should release in May for Xbox 360, PC, PS2 and Wii. A PS3 version is to follow at a later date. Alone in the Dark is to be joined in the summer by PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 FPS Legendary.

New to our knowledge is Airborne Rangers for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. There's no info, but it could be a new game based on a game of the same name released in the late 80s by MicroProse. It saw players taking on the role of a sole airborne ranger and infiltrating enemy territory to complete objectives."

Asked whether we'd get to see regular AITD games from now on, rather than having to wait seven years again, Polloni told Eurogamer: "We certainly hope so!"

When it comes to cutting edge trouser-spoilers, Resident Evil is still the daddy. Continually bending the rules of survival horror, the fourth game in the series was not only one of the best games on PS2, but probably one of the best games ever made. And yet… while they could certainly lay claim to propelling horror gaming forward with arse-clenching frightfests like RE Nemesis, Capcom cant claim to have invented the genre. That honour goes to Alone in the Dark, originally developed by ...
You also probably know that, while the protagonist's name is Edward Carnaby, he has absolutely nothing in common with the original, more dapper Carnaby of the first game. But what else do you know about the game? Not much, I'll tell you, because for a game that was supposed to be coming in March (itself a delay from a 2007 release), we've not heard much new info for a while. So don't act too surprised, then, at news it's been delayed for a second time, this time to September. Bummer.
Also, thanks to a brief word from the official Atari Europe Forums, the release date for the game was narrowed down:

"The current release date is financial year 2007 - which, for Atari, ends on 31st March 2008. There isn't a set date as yet, the game looks pretty cool and in a very good shape as of the last version I've seen (beginning of Dec), so all very very promising."
Dec 10, 2007

Alone in the Dark is a game that has spent serious time in development - and, eventually, all the early hype surrounding it has ever so slowly trickled away... but, we said it before and well say it again, thats a damn shame because, put simply, the game is shaping up to be a cracker. Forget Alan Wake, forget Silent Hill 5, forget even Resident Evil 5 - this really could be the hidden gem of next-gen horror gaming… so weve donned our boots and delved back into a distinctly ...

"Atari Australia seems to have its wires crossed. According to the publisher's website, Alone in the Dark: Near Death Investigation came out 11 months ago! I must have missed the press release on that one. And the review copy. And the reviews.

Yes, I realise it's a small mistake, but I think because of it AITD is appearing on the front page of the site along with The Witcher and Jericho, two games that came out weeks (or months) ago. Might cause a bit of confusion when punters go looking for it. Mind you, $119.95 is quite a price tag".

Atari has just started its viral marketing campaign for Alone in the Dark as the mysterious website www.centraldark.com was launched. Atari sent out a press release with nothing more than this link. On the website, you can view a trailer which tells the story of what mystery lies under the ground of Central Park in New York. Beneath the trailer, however, there is a countdown which reaches zero on December 13.

Surely, this was all intended for Alone in the Dark, since Atari is the publisher of the game and the game itself is situated in and around Central Park.

So, PS2 and Wii versions are being developed by Hydravision (Eden Games is handling the other versions), and feature the same storyline as the previously announced outings for the revival of the venerable survival horror series.
According to Atari, PS2 and Wii versions of Alone in the Dark push respective hardware "hard", "incorporating many of the gameplay features found in the Xbox 360 version".
Having watched the way fire curls around wood and propagates across surfaces in Alone in the Dark, we can only advise that pyromaniacs everywhere should put their pennies away for a future purchase. You can almost choke on the smoke.

This time around, the survival horror series reprises the life of private investigator Edward Carnby in modern-day Central Park, New York. The devs have modeled the park down to 50cm accuracy, as well as making sure the major features are bang-on. ...
We've heard little from the new Alone in the Dark game for some time but it's finally making a bit of noise again with the arrival of new screenshots.

Atari's Alone on the Dark game, of course, marks the return of the survival horror granddaddy that first appeared in the 1990s. In this reinvention of the series, events take place in present-day with New York's Central Park the stage for shocks and scares. Enjoy the latest screens, but don't worry... you're not alone.

Some truly ropey footage of Atari's Alone in the Dark 5 has stepped out of the shadows, offering a glimpse of what's in store for this grim, action-slanted survival horror. Did we say ropey? We meant it - the clip sees lead character Edward Carnby scrambling his way up the side of a crumbling skyscraper, clinging onto a length of rope that's serving as a lifeline.

Flaming masonry plummets past him as he ascends, and exploding cars from the street below soar up and nip at his heels. Even the ...
The pioneer - Resident Evil | 1996 | PS1
Responsible for coining the term survival horror, Resident Evil was more than a third person action/adventure with a few monsters in - it marked out the beginning of a genre that actively went out of its way to unsettle and isolate players. For a start, you never had enough ammo, so sooner or later you were going to have to run. But run where? The claustrophobic confines of the mansion was as much your enemy as the monsters, with intentionally awkward ...
So with the fifth installment of the series entering the third and final year of production, we packed our bags, soiled our pants (just to get the inevitable over and done with), and hopped to Eden Games' offices in Lyon, France to get an exclusive update on this survival horror classic.

So, the first thing we ...

Carnby gets high in the first ever 360 gameplay.
