WoW hits 1.5 million subs
World of Warcraft puts the massive into MMORPG
Blizzard has today announced that over 1.5 million subscribers have now signed up for their massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft.
And, incredibly, the total number of people playing at any one time has peaked at over 500,000. That's a whole lot of MMORPGing.
World of Warcraft debuted in the US in November and finally reached Europe in February, where it has since garnered over 500,000 active subscribers and a peak of 230,000 subscribers playing simultaneously.
The game will also be launched in additional regions later this year, including China and Taiwan.
"All of us at Blizzard are extremely gratified and amazed at the international demand for World of Warcraft," commented Blizzard president Mike Morhaime.
"From region to region, we've seen a phenomenal level of enthusiasm for World of Warcraft and we're absolutely thrilled people are enjoying the game so much."
