Ok I read the comments and the one thing that annoyed me the most was that no one mentioned the Wii's price point when it came out. It was by far the cheapest console on the market or course it was going to dominate at that time. With it's new gimmicks and cute mascots. It was for the children at a price parents could justify paying for a 5 year old to drool all over it. Now though it's not the same deal. Ya they have a new gimmick but this is not cheap piece of plastic you wave in the air and the other thing that gets me interested is why there has been no price announced. Nintendo did well in the children's section. I am not so sure they are going to do as well with the big boys. They say the 3DS sucked because of it's launch line up. I say it sucked because people are catching on to their gimmicks.

You (much like the person who's opinions are expressed in this article) obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

I REALLY want the Wii U to be successful, however I have my doubts. Based on its harware, it will be surpassed by microsoft and sony, in terms of hardware. For most Nintendo fans, graphics and hardware is not that big of an issue. Nintendo has created some wonderful experiences witht he limited capabilities of the Wii. However, the Wii's hardware inferiority is what limited its third party games, the Wii was able to run a fraction of third party games, and of that small percentile the wii was not even close to being able to run the game as it should have run. Nintendo, in an attempt to address this issue, has shown that the Wii u has support from numerous third party companies, and have showcased alot of third party games that will make it to the Wii U. However these are third party games from this generation. I fear that the Wii U will suffer the same fate as the Wii and it will fall so far behind that third party games will be close to non existent. With how tight money is lately, most gamers will ne able to afford one console for the next generation. If the Wii U cannot support the new games of the next generation, other than their own first party games, then most gamers will choose to stay with sony or microsoft. I love Nintendo, and I love their games, but I cannot afford a Microsoft console as well as a Nintendo console. And if Nintendo does not have sufficient hardware to run the next generation of console games, those who choose to only have a Wii U will miss out on many amazing games.

I really want the Wii U to keep up with next-gen, but I don't know how much power they can push into the system, since all games are supposed to run on the controller, too. But if you take the fact that the new iPad has quad core graphics with a higher res than the average HDTV has, all in a skinny little tablet, it's possible. But I don't know if they could keep the price low if they did that, so... I'll just shut up now.

the controller haas no graphics processing power in it. the console streams it to the controller..
  • metroid2099400 - July 4, 2012 3:43 p.m.

That's exactly his point. Since the console is essentially doing two things at once, it could limit the processing power actually allotted to rendering games on the television.

Just a thought, but I'm going to assume that the tablet-controller is a huge chunk of the Wii-U's cost, which makes me think that there's not a whole lot of "next gen" going on inside the console itself. That said, even if Iwata's right and graphics don't change that much in the next several years (though it's still surprising to see the graphic quality in CG movies changing over a period of 3-5 years), you still have to factor in the processing power needed for bigger worlds, more sprites and/or objects, further draw-distance, more complex (real-time rendered) ray-tracing and shadows, more complex AI, better physics, faster loading times, etc. and so on and so forth. All these things require more powerful hardware and are used as tools for immersion. There's a good possibility that Nintendo can treat their core gamers right this time 'round, even with a not-quite-next-gen machine if they can rebuild their game library, but there's a lot of doubt ingrained in me at this point between the DS and Wii. I have both platforms (but not the 3DS) and only a few games for each, while my other systems' games (including older Nintendo consoles) have at least one bookshelf of space dedicated to each of them.

Your response is rather uninformative and/or uninformed.

PC Master race reporting in and quietly laughing.

pc gaming is dead because of pirates like you. go benchmark crysis for like the millionth time recording the fps for it and every game. tweaking and tweaking and tweaking, forgetting that there's this weird thing called a game.. to... ya know.. play... ....maybe.... no? or you could continue to troll console articles with your false sense of superiority. you're like the iphone owners of the gaming community.
  • Redeater - July 4, 2012 11:26 a.m.

Normally I just skip over troll comments but that iPhone bit was pretty funny.

    >An Article About Wii U >Main Game is Luigi's Mansion 2 Nice one :P
  • shawksta - July 4, 2012 9:56 a.m.

Pfft, of course Microsoft is gonna throw them off. Nintendo threw them off when they said they wouldnt charge for normal service. They seem to forget just how "Last Gen" PS3 and 360 Started out on launch looking like PS2 and Xbox, the Wii U is launching with close if not, Better than PS3 and 360 which means the Wii U still got lots of potential, and overtime will get much better.
  • PhantasyPopStar - July 4, 2012 10:40 a.m.

and the fact the controller is basically a tablet! everyone want's a tablet so we're all gonna buy it anyway. cos whenever nintendo revolutionize (the wii and undoubtably wii u) people know they're right and they fork out. the wii wasn't a massive success because of the non existent "casual market" it was because of us wanting to be cool. which the wii (and in turn the wii u) was/will be!
  • Viron - July 4, 2012 10:48 a.m.

are you and I reading the same article? The article said "sub-Xbox 360" quality, that implies that it is running below the level of an Xbox 360. But it's not like graphics matter to Nintendo or their fans, most of their games look better with cartoony graphics. You know the same 3 games they have been making for over 20 years. One of which that hasn't had a constant gameplay change in that time
  • PhantasyPopStar - July 4, 2012 10:58 a.m.

3 games? more like 9 million. all a revolution in gaming over its predecessor
  • Redeater - July 4, 2012 11:18 a.m.

"They seem to forget just how "Last Gen" PS3 and 360 Started out on launch looking like PS2 and Xbox, the Wii U is launching with close if not, Better than PS3 and 360 which means the Wii U still got lots of potential, and overtime will get much better." Uh, OK. Except your whole point is invalid. While the Wii U will be topping out at slightly better graphics than the 360 the new Xbox/PS will still be ahead by a long shot thus rendering any Wii U graphical advancements invalid. I'm not saying that graphics are everything I'm just saying it it pretty dumb to compare a console's launch graphics with a console that has been out for years. It's kind of pointless to compare consoles
  • PhantasyPopStar - July 4, 2012 11:31 a.m.

It's like comparing cheese and bananas.. everyone always wants ham..
