Wii Mini launching in the UK next month

Nintendo is to launch Wii Mini in the UK on March 22.

Currently available exclusively in Canada, the flat resting system is smaller than the original Wii and features a manual release top-loading disc tray. The console doesn’t boast any internet connectivity options or backwards compatibility with GameCube titles.

It will be available in matte black with a red border, and come bundled with a red MotionPlus controller and Nunchuk. While Nintendo said last year that the Canadian Wii Mini is capable of playing more than 1,400 disc-based Wii games, the UK version will be compatible with 1,200 and support "most" Wii accessories. UK pricing has yet to be confirmed, but the system retails for $100 (£64) in Canada.

Lifetime Wii hardware sales stood at 99.38 million units as of December 31, 2012.

To accompany the Wii Mini launch, Nintendo will also add four more games to its Nintendo Selects line of value software: Mario Party 8, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Power Tennis and Super Paper Mario.

the wii was tiny anyway. I can understand why Sony would want to reduce the the size of the huge PS3, and taking away wifi is nonsensical.

They released this way too late in the life of the Wii for this to have a point. Get a real Wii for the same price.

Still not quite convinced what the point of this is...But whatever : | Just hope they sell it and advertise it right so that people don't get confused when they can't play a game or a gamecube game..or use proper cables..or play and buy stuff online xD

Why??????? The only thing that made the wii good was the fact that you could play GC games in it. As soon as they stripped that feature, everything good about the wii went out the door. Can't the wii u play wii originals? You obviously get more bang for your buck getting the wii u

Anyone who is pondering buying one of these I can't recommend passing on this enough. I bought one for the same reason someone will add a copy of Gigli to their collection. It feels really cheap and strips away almost every feature. Google some of the hilariously scathing reviews for the Wii Mini if you are still on the fence. Plus, if you are that desperate you can go on something like Kijiji. At any given time there are about 20 Wiis ranging from $50-$80. The fad is finally over and people who have used it twice are looking to get rid of them.(looking at sales data I find it hard to believe that people are replacing the with WiiU)

IT'S SO CUTE!!! Also, I think you put the wrong date at the bottom of the article.

Huh, I just realized that, here in Canada, both Best Buy and Future Shop are ONLY selling the Wii Mini now. No more regular Wiis.

Why would anyone buy this(besides collectors)? The Wii itself is about 20~30 more dollars and supports ALL wii games, has wi-fi, and supports all of it accessories. And the Wii U is out....WHY!!!
