It’s no big deal for us to tell you to buy something right? About one of every four features we make reminds you to buy Okami, which you better have done by now. Well this time, one of our favorite underrated downloadables from last year demands your immediate attention. For those that don’t know, Defense Grid: The Awakening came to PC and XBLA last year to little fanfare butpretty good reviews. It’s a seemingly simple tower defense game that slowly grows in depth to become so rich and satisfying that it belies the casual expectations of the genre. It’s got a mix of levels with set paths and created paths on which to plan the best death march for the invaders, and there are enough ways to refine and purify your strategy on each map that you’ll be replaying each multiple times after beating it.

But here’s why we’re telling you to buy it today, not at some point in the relative future. For just one more day the game is FIVE DOLLARS on XBLA. PC gamers should still pick it up for the very fair price of ten bucks, but for just a few more hours the little wonder is half-priced on Xbox Live as part of theirSpring sale. And for new players and for those who already squeezed 20+ hours out of that game, developer Hidden Path is at last about to release someDLC for it, planned for sometime this month.
In summation, if you own a 360, buy this game right now. It’s less than you probably spend on a normal trip to Wendy’s and is worth every penny. We hate to sound like a shill, especially when shilling for free, but we feel like everyone has been missing out on this amazing game for months now, so it’s justified. Buy it (and Okami) today.
