#1 is a completely contrived debate. Everyone knows that PC gaming is superior. I just don't wan't to buy a new $2000 rig every year to play the newest games at their optimal quality
  • christian-shaffer - March 11, 2013 5:43 p.m.

I won't argue that it's a contrived argument, but the idea that it is superior is just stupid. It depends on what you want out of your gaming experience. Each form of gaming excels in different aspects, meaning neither is superior. The whole argument is pointless and childish for this very reason. The idea that anyone is better than me or that their gaming experience is better than mine because they use a different form of gaming is bullshit and it just shows that you're really only focused on your ego.

Consoles and computers have components whose specifications and performance are demonstrably and quantifiably different

The ability to carry/support life > Being able to run faster or jump higher. Jackass.

LOL. Who the fuck are you? Gloria Steinem?

As Tyler so desperately tried to argue in a certain other vidjagame podcast recently, the upgrade every few months thing is an absolute myth. I've had the same rig since 2009, it cost $700-800 and the only I've upgraded is the graphics card three months ago - before that I was playing both Far Cry 3 and The Witcher 2 smoothly and looking much better than consoles. It's also silly to argue that "PCs are more expensive" when I do everything on my PC. Work, browse internet, play almost all games (anyone want to play Mother 3?), watch TV or films, listen to music, porn, all stuff. I have full privacy which I don't have on my TV, but if I wanted to play on TV I could do - and I use my 360 controller for many games too. Why do I need a console too? Gears of War: Judgment? I didn't even finish the last one (note: I have a 360)! This isn't a dig against consoles in any way, I'm just explaining why the price thing is a myth and why personally I barely play console games anymore. I just have a much better experience on PC. I also find it funny how the "always on DRM" and "drivers" arguments get thrown around in from the console side now in the same way that "patches", "constant updates" and "installing" were used last generation. I don't think drivers are coming to consoles, but hey, it's just an update... and the always-on DRM? Let's see what Microsoft has to say in April...

Battlefield > COD (not even close) WOW > any mmo (cept for Everquest 1) JRPGs = WRPGs Both are great genre's I love em both Mario > Sonic Nintendo > Sony > Sega > Microsoft...Come on microsoft, give us more games BESIDES halo already or I won't be buying a 720. Console Gaming > PC Gaming (for me). I love both but Most of my friends play on consoles so I chose it over PC gaming.
  • mbavalo - March 11, 2013 4:03 p.m.

No no no no no no no no! You got it all wrong Sonic > Mario WOW is getting old Sony >Microsoft> Sega>Nintendo PC is the mother of all gaming and does not deserve being grouped with console gaming. Simple
  • hestar - March 11, 2013 4:27 p.m.

Sorry I hate sonic games..Can't get into them..Prefer Mario. I havent played wow in years but tried guild wars 2 out and hated it. How is nintendo the worst?..They come out with great games while microsoft just relies on halo..I love my xbox but it needs more new IPS I like PC and console gaming and prefer it as my friends play on how am I wrong? their my opinions?
  • mbavalo - March 13, 2013 4:37 p.m.

And I find that there are too many Mario games and as you put it " just relies on halo..." Nintendo relies too much on that mushroom killing plumber. But I agree with you MS needs more IPs, however PC gaming is the one above all gaming
  • dondiablo29 - March 11, 2013 3:24 p.m.

When it comes to RPGs, I love both WRPGs and JRPGs, I'm not even picking a side there, they're both amazing types of games, and should co-exist.
  • Cyberninja - March 11, 2013 2:26 p.m.

Mutilplayer vs Single Player is a big one like with the new Naruto game I feel its a god send no trophies were online since I usually play games by myself and prefer to keep it that way.
  • JarkayColt - March 11, 2013 1:50 p.m.

You got most of the ones I'd expect, and great job on highlighting the futility of them. I didn't realise arguing between FF and DQ was actually a thing though until now. To be fair there are quite a few other franchise comparisons or genre splits you could pointlessly argue over. For example, Gran Turismo vs Forza, or in fact, arcade racing vs sim racing or...y'know, something or other. Also, this is slightly related to the console vs PC gaming thing, but a recent one that's only going to get bigger is Physical vs Digital. Which, as I understand it, is just a debate over the fact that some people like having boxes, and some people... don't. least, I think that's it... Although I guess that's not just limited to games anymore.
  • JMarsella09 - March 11, 2013 1:45 p.m.

I really love JRPG's but you know what, I love Mass Effect and the Elder Scrolls just as much.
  • Elgyem - March 11, 2013 1:22 p.m.

What about Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat? Otherwise, this is a pretty good list. Several of these were hilarious. One more thing, Call of Duty vs anything Nintendo seems to be a huge issue where I live. Or maybe its because the CoD players are so much more open.
  • BladedFalcon - March 11, 2013 4:20 p.m.

I think people have stopped caring at this point, mostly because before SFIV revitalized the genre in 09, both series had been irrelevant for a while. And even though both are now resurrected again with pretty solid entries, the rivalry seems to have died down along with the old games, I really don't remember people arguing about which was best even when MK9 came out.
  • TheDudeFromNowhere - March 11, 2013 12:46 p.m.

PC vs Gaming Consoles is the worst. When I see two guys going at it over this, all I can say is JUST LEAVE ME BE.
  • BladedFalcon - March 11, 2013 12:35 p.m.

I think the rivalry between DQ vs FF has become moot in modern days. Both franchises have become terribly mishandled by the same company, so I don't think it really matters. The rest of these are good picks, mainly because they are indeed heated rivalries that I think most have both legitimate AND stupid points on their side. Except the Mario Vs Sonic one, bitch about the character itself and the style all you want, but the matter of fact is that Sonic hasn't been relevant in more than a decade, and he's been kept alive purely by the power of nostalgia of it's fans more than his own merits. Whereas doesn't matter if you want to hate on Mario, most of his games to this day remain being objectively good and from time to time, genuinely innovative.
  • Arobadope - March 11, 2013 2:22 p.m.

It's become moot because Square and Enix merged.
  • BladedFalcon - March 11, 2013 4:05 p.m.

Not necessarily, back when Dragon Quest VIII and Final Fantasy XII you could still see a legitimate discussion of what would people prefer because both were good games but with very different styles and merits. Doesn't matter if they are owned by the same company, if they are different while still falling into the same genre, you're bound to see people comparing them. Nowadays though, people don't care anymore, because FF has gone to shit with it's XIII series, and Dragon Quest has alienated fans by making their latest entries online forays. fans no longer argue because they dislike both XD
  • Arobadope - March 11, 2013 6:49 p.m.

Noooo it's really just because Square and Enix merged.
  • BladedFalcon - March 11, 2013 7:18 p.m.

Yes, you being a omniscient, all-knowing person, know the irrefutable truth, specially because it only takes a click away on the goggles to easily find sites and forums in which several debates between the series exist way after the merger happen. *rolls eyes*
  • taokaka - March 11, 2013 5:41 p.m.

It's good to know that when I've been playing new super mario bros, mario kart or any of his non rpg spin offs and haven't been enjoying them I actually have because of just how objectively good most mario games are.
  • BladedFalcon - March 11, 2013 6:20 p.m.

You have every right to not enjoy them, and in fact, a lot of them I haven't enjoyed at all myself. But even then, at worst it's usually because either it's more of the same, or it has been made more "casual", which yeah, it sucks in a way, but pretty much most people can agree that they are technically good games. Whereas most of the Sonic games of the last decade sans one or two at most have been pretty much terrible or mediocre at best.
