Tomb Raider box-art: Love it or hate it?

Publisher Square Enix has unveiled the box art for next year’s Lara Croft island survival adventure, Tomb Raider. The cover shows a contemplative Lara looking bruised, blooded, and as battered as the rocks around her. But clearly she is tooled up, not giving up, and ready to survive the storm in whatever metaphorical guises it manifests as.

Have a look:

So what do you think - love it or hate it? Or are you somewhere in the middle? When you've decided, have a vote in the poll below. It's just for fun. So don't sweat it.

If you’ve got anything else to say about the cover, get involved with our state-of-the-art comments section.

Tomb Raider is scheduled for release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on 5 March 2013.

Box Art

    Could be worse I suppose

Yay. More monochromatic box art. Just what I've always wanted.
  • Dmellott11 - October 24, 2012 6:51 a.m.

Sorry, can't help myself. Monochromatic would indicate that the entire thing is made up of different values of the same hue, which it is definitely not. This box art is more selective desaturation as the backround is mono, but looking at Laura she obviously has a full range of colors, especially from the hips up. ^

The point, I can't help but feel you missed it. I see what you're saying, but that doesn't make the box art any better.

I do agree in that regard, it does come across as rather uninspired.
  • BladedFalcon - October 24, 2012 7:45 a.m.

In YOUR opinion. I like the box art just fine.
  • samsneeze - October 24, 2012 8:10 a.m.

I never said it wasn't an opinion.

She seems to be covering her boobies with her arm in an attempt to say 'Look, we have moved on from the boobies, please concentrate on the fantastical new thingies wot we ave made for this game' I like boobies

"She's all bloody and hurt, commence with the women shouldn't be in any violent condition campaign blah blah womens rights" Looks nice

I like it. To begin with, it accurately represents the tone and theme the game has set from what we've seen so far, in that it's a harsher, grittier tone will all odds setting against an already vulnerable and battered and bruised Lara... And yet she stands her ground with determination on her face that indicates that she will rise up to kick the odds in the arse. To me, it's that face that makes the entire cover work, and that makes me prefer it to the previous art from the game, in which she looked too vulnerable or struggling to survive with no indication of inner strength.

If her arm hurts so much she should put down the bow. This cover doesn't lead me to believe there will be any actual tombs, or any raiding. I hope there's more exploration than fighting, which is what I loved about the original.

I hate the logo. Its just too similar to Uncharted's logo. I hope this game isn't just uncharted with a female Drake
  • archnite - October 24, 2012 11:55 a.m.

Funny because pre-release Uncharted was Tomb Raider with male Lara Croft
  • Redeater - October 24, 2012 11:50 a.m.

Meh, it looks OK I guess. I'm still extremely skeptical of how this will turn out but will gladly support it if scores 85+ on Metacritic. (Critical score not user score since most users are idiots)

It's not bad but the concept cover art was better. (The one where she's bandaging her arm.)
  • Vincent Wolf - October 24, 2012 11:23 p.m.

It's fine. Not love, nor hate. But I wish she had much bigger boobs. Maybe in next games...
  • Wasting_Light - October 26, 2012 10:23 a.m.

The cover art itself is pretty good. But like the other poster said they should really change the font of the title because it looks WAY too similar to Uncharted's. If you combine that with the rather generic title we'll have ignorant gamers think the game is just an Uncharted rip-off.

I rather like it quite a bit. She looks vulnerable and unsure, yet determined. It does look like what the developers were trying to portray in the game by establishing her origins.
