I am an ex-owner of the SNES, and the first time I saw the Japanese/European controller I was like, WHAT THE FUCK WHY WE NO GET COLORS. Fuck that controller. Donkey Kong Country was awesome, though.

    Mmmmmmm gummy bears...

Here's the deal... The PS1 and PS2, PS3, PSP buttons originated from "stop" (square button), "play" (triangle button), "record" (circle button, and "eject" (x button). Just look at any old Sony Walkman or cassette player and you will see the familiar icons in their full glory! talk about a time "back before you were gamers."

  • D4rk2triker - October 20, 2009 9:07 p.m.

What about the fact that the SNES controller had 1)an X-button before the PS1 and 2) a Y-button, even farther away from the beginning of the alphabet?

Paul, I expected footnoted sources for this article, and possibly an annotated page of references. Are you in grad school or not??
  • killerwhalen - October 20, 2009 8:10 p.m.

  • skyguy343 - October 20, 2009 7:28 p.m.

I enjoyed the Z button on both N64 and GameCube. As a sidenote, i wish you could report comments for being extremely unfunny.

  • nadrewod999 - October 20, 2009 7:13 p.m.

0_____O Did NO ONE read this right? It freaking says, and I quote, "The 'W' key ... is only one letter in a 24-word alphabet...". Seriously, have you guys at GR been pulling so many all-night-ers that you think that an alphabet is freaking made up of 24 WORDS?!?!?! Still, great article. Another reason to explain why I've bookmarked this site. Now for my South Park impressions (read them all the same way). CARTMAN: XD Kenny: (X) THANK YOU CLEVELAND, GOOD NIGHT!
