San Andreas was an island. And it was packed with more things to do and ten times the digital girls of Zach's Island. Even if they did look horrifying.

Because one of our staffers is slaving away and isn't here to mention this in person, I'm going to act as a proxy and mention both Pinata Island from Viva Pinata and the Whirlpool Islands in Pokemon. Also, any other island in a Pokemon game. There are some severe pokemon fans here.

Having just played through the SEs of the first two Monkey Islands, as well as Tales, Monkey Island is definitely top of my list right now.

Yoshis island looks bloody beautiful. In fact I might go as far to say that it puts a lot of current gen games to shame, which is pretty damn impressive for a game released way back in 1995.

Love Yoshi's Island at #1...still the best Mario game of all time IMHO. I also agree with KnightDehumdifier on Wind Waker, although I'd cite pretty much any island from that game as they were all pretty good.

    Uh, Test Drive Unlimited?
  • JPorFavor - July 12, 2010 4:51 p.m.

New Zack Island- an otaku's dream.
  • DriveShaft - July 12, 2010 4:38 p.m.

DK Island, Vice City islands and the island from Uncharted weren't on there? also I though Monkey island would be higher up
  • robertbreedlove - July 12, 2010 4:36 p.m.

Good list overall, but where is arkham and shadow moses?
  • Bloodstorm - July 12, 2010 4:20 p.m.

Arkham, Liberty City, Pacific City, Pinata Island are some of my favorite islands.
  • Fata1Stryke - July 12, 2010 4:17 p.m.

First island in my mind was the Silent Cartographer level in Halo CE. Not that it really deserves a place on this list, but it was a fun level. I'll second the Shivering Isles though.
  • TomMishkin - July 12, 2010 4:16 p.m.

Yay, Koholint Island, of course! But in all honesty? First island that came to my mind was the one I am spending most of my time on these days: Rock Island, from iPhone's Pocket God. THAT is a serious piece of gaming that requires writing about ASAP.
  • Trifecta9000 - July 12, 2010 4:13 p.m.

    where was donkey kong island?
  • taylornolfi - July 12, 2010 4:03 p.m.

the first thing I thought of was "Liberty City" That is an island.
  • Ninja-KiLLR - July 12, 2010 3:51 p.m.

i was hoping for the shivering isles from oblivion or wake island from the battlefield games or shadow moses
  • CH3BURASHKA - July 12, 2010 3:51 p.m.

An excellent Top 7, bravo gents. Too bad there are no obscure-British-game-only islands; that always makes for fun TDar segments.
  • GaryTheGuidoHunter - July 12, 2010 3:51 p.m.

Great Article! I thought that the resort on Pokitaru from the first Ratchet and Clank should be on it because it was so bright and colourful...
  • Keegan - July 12, 2010 3:49 p.m.

    Adventure Island?? Sad panda.
  • ryno - July 12, 2010 3:43 p.m.

Kartorga 12 should be on this list
  • 510BrotherPanda - July 12, 2010 2:48 p.m.

Koholint Island would be nice, but it makes sense that it's not on here because it was only a DREAM. Oh, Yoshi's Island; what other place has the first boss dying of embarrassment from having his pants knocked off?
