The return of the handhelds

Sept 13 2007

Nintendo has sold over 14 million DS handhelds in Europe. Sony has sold over 8 million PSPs in Europe. You'd have thought everyone who wanted one would've bought one already, but both companies are soon launching new colours of their handheld consoles - the DS Silver and Simpsons PSP.

In all honesty, handhelds are probably the most consistent performers in the console world. There are fewer updates and more revisions. Hence these two new colours, attempting to snare anyone who's seen a DS and gone, "Well, I'm not so bothered. But if they made it in silver..."

Meanwhile, the Simpsons PSP basically equals a yellow PSP. Which at least makes it easier for potential muggers to see you playing it on public transport. No, sorry, we're being snide now aren't we? It's just we're not too moved by these new hues. Now, if they made them in green and purple polka dots...

Above: The Simpsons PSP should be glaring luridly at you from shop shelves when the Simpsons Game launches in early November. The DS Silver is on sale on 12 October
