TGS 2011: BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend teaser is fast and colorful

Fighting fans lost their collective minds over BlazBlue when it was released a few years back, and since the original, the team over at Arc System Works has been quick to release a steady stream of DLC, sequels, and upgrades. In true fighting game form they’ve added some insanity, as well as a few suffixes to make the title nice and silly. The next iteration, BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend, is an expansion of sorts to Continuum Shift II, and is slated to not only hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but the PlayStation Vita as well. Does it continue the series’ history of fast fighting and insane characters? You’ll need to watch the Tokyo Game Show trailer to find out (spoiler: it does).

Extendwill include all of the characters and features released thus far for Continuum Shift II, as well as a few new additions that are sure to make fans salivate. Relius Clover, the new character in Extend, is shown off in full during the trailer, and looks to be a fantastic addition to the already impressive roster. More scenarios and story will be piled on, too, expanding the lore and creating even more content to get excited about when the game releases this winter.

I'm still waiting on BlazBlue appearing on Steam >_> I know one of the games at least made it to the PC, but only on GFWL...

They should maybe scale back the updates a bit. I mean just one more character seems odd. Maybe they should have wait to release a pair. Balance changes are welcome though. I don't have a ps3 yet, but plan to get one, and am dying to get Blazblue. I plan to main Platinum the Trinity.

If you haven't played it before, it makes sense, but if you HAVE, then you'd care about the story additions and balance changes. As for just one addition to the character roster, I've never liked playing as the bad guys.

I'm really glad this is coming out. Although, two updates within one year feels a bit odd. I'm also not that excited about Relius, but the new balances make me happy. Here's to Tsubaki being able to use her mugen mid-air!

Man, I can't wait to play with Relius!

    Nice

How do 2v4 network battles work? I'll probably buy this even though my interest is waning. BlazBlue is probably the only fighting game I am good at, though I want to be better at SF4.

Anyone else buy the first BlazBlue like I did when it came out? And now have the feeling of "I'm done with fighting games if they are just going to come out with a altered version with more characters and a lower price?"
  • S135 - September 12, 2011 2:13 p.m.

Yes, i did. And i've kept up with it because each new iteration (All 2 of them) adds new balances. About the new characters, if you're not going to play them, you don't have to worry. Arc releases the balance patches on consoles for free so you don't have to worry about paying extra to get the latest version. Extend may or may not be a retail release. If it is, then it will probably not cost more than $50. (USD)

I'm agreeing with you here, but it does look kinda bad that the people defending Blazblue both have Blazblue icons doesn't it? :P
  • taokaka - September 12, 2011 3:46 p.m.

I agree as well. now three people with blazblue icons are defending it.
  • LordPwnge18 - September 12, 2011 5:08 p.m.

I may not have a BB icon, but damn do I defend this. Speaking of which, I'm always up for some matches on xbl.

Well, obviously, most of you know I hate Nintendo for repetition, and this is no exception. BlazBlue 3 seems 2 updates off.
  • UsernameLoser - September 13, 2011 3:02 p.m.

Yes, I do know Nintendo didn't make this game, but I used them as an example.
  • birdro - September 12, 2011 3:22 p.m.

I'm pretty much in that boat, but Arc has been pretty good about giving support to the Blazblues, and if it keeps the story moving (SPOILER...I guess?) I'm in just to see what the hell's about to go down in Ikaruga. Having new characters to play with alone makes me happy since they all seem to be so well made.
  • ParanoidAndroid - September 12, 2011 1:34 p.m.

I love me some Blazblue, but I think I've got enough already.
  • robertpopovic - September 12, 2011 1:33 p.m.

I'm kinda weary of all the small updates each time. i'd rather have them collect all additions and a lot of new characters and release it as the 3rd game in the series.
