I think adding an option to control a star destroyer or or mon calamari cruiser would be nice. Make the captain of the ship a hero unit and allow them to control at least the cannons and shields. But if possible allow that player to pilot the ship. To balance it, I think the anti fighter cannons would have to remain controlled by the computer and to make fighters and frigates untargetable. If balanced properly, the players can experience the joy of decimating a capital ship without owning a game. Oh another thing, the destruction of a bridge should kill the captain as well and with the destruction, the hero unit or captain should no longer be available

i could see this maybe as a 'commander' unit, a la planetside or rising storm. one commander giving orders on the ground, while another is in charge of the space units. you'd be given an overview map of the battlefield, and could control things rts style, if you so choose. could be rad. and yes, a shot to the bridge should definitely take them out.

DICE is bringing the commander back for BF4 so I can see them bringing something similar to Battlefront. But holy frijoles a commander controlled Star Destroyer would be AMAZING!

You could base whole game types around that concept! Imagine forming a small unit devoted entirely to assassinating the enemy commander and weakening their team as a whole. And removing their ability to order fresh loo paper too, no doubt.
