Sonic Free Riders - Chris works up a sweat with Kinect [VIDEO]

Sega recently stopped by the office to let us try out the full-body racing experience that is Sonic Free Riders. Behold, as the illustrious Chris Antista steps on his virtual hoverboard and leaves Sonic and Eggman in the dust. Marvel at his feats of athleticism as Chris jumps, spins, and doggy paddles his way to a respectable finish, whilst Sega's own Brand Manager David Allen gives us a full play-by-play of the action.

Chris actually made this looks sorta fun. Gotta give him credit for going all out.
  • Crabhand - August 11, 2010 7:14 p.m.

"Woah you're riding a soda can!" What.
  • grappler51 - August 11, 2010 1:01 a.m.

haha I love the picture on the front page.
  • Limbo - August 10, 2010 11:59 p.m.

I can't believe it but that looked like fun. My only problems was how it didn't pick you up sometimes and made you hit a wall. And that soda can.
  • shyfonzie - August 10, 2010 11:17 p.m.

Yeah Chris! We dress similarly! And that was some pretty nice color commentary from Carolyn!! This looks less terrible than I would've imagined!
  • JohnnyApplesperm - August 10, 2010 11:06 p.m.

LOL nice Chris. That actually looked sort of fun. Maybe I should stop being such a stuck up anti-motion-control asshole.... naaah.
  • RebornKusabi - August 10, 2010 10:57 p.m.

Hmm... I think I know who should be including as a DLC character after watching this video!
  • Hurricrane - August 10, 2010 10:53 p.m.

so... you ride... a can? That you apperently can't controooooool?
  • gamingfreak - August 10, 2010 9:51 p.m.

Could you guys post these videos on Youtube or something? Cuz the vid is like a slide show.
  • crumbdunky - August 10, 2010 9:45 p.m.

Toooo slooooow for a Sonic game imho. I guess that's the dual Kinect issues, though, of the lag needing addressing AND that a lot of "gamers" won't be able to keep up with the physical demands of decent, Sonicesque speeds. but if that's the case why do this with a character associated with extreme velocity at all? Probably wouldn't seem AS slow if it wasn't a Sonic game. Not win at all and the "doggy paddle"? Sod right off before all his dignity is eroded. Good sport Chris, good sport. BTW-WTF's with these new nonsensical recaptcha words?
  • goochbiscuit - August 10, 2010 9:38 p.m.

Take'er easy there, Chris, almost got too much oxygen on that one. Better go have a smoke to even it out.
  • Eaxis - August 10, 2010 9:29 p.m.

Can't wait for the talk in talkradar.
  • juicenpancakes - August 10, 2010 9:24 p.m.

I enjoy these videos of GR playing Kinect, but under no circumstances do I want to play a game like this.
  • BleedingHatMcGillicutty - August 10, 2010 9:01 p.m.

    Wow... Nice, Chris haha.
  • ChiefLethal - August 10, 2010 8:58 p.m.

So this video seems to dismiss a couple of the issues i was having with kinect. Will the games be fun? Probably. Will you look like an idiot playing them? Probably, but consider how cool you look sitting with a controller in your... oh wait. I think this is a perfect example of what the kinect will do well, which expectantly doesn't bode well for the hardcore gamer. Not that it matters. We still have our Halos and our Modern Warfares.
  • SillyPigeon - August 10, 2010 8:55 p.m.

Big the Catish, hilarious! Great vid Have to say I was slightly impressed with the game. I would much rather play that than use the tony hawk ride board or wii fit, but maybe that isn't saying much.
