Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap review

The history of the rap revolution.

“Rap is not pop, if you call it that then stop...”

Jetting across the US, Ice-T asks an incredible line-up of the world’s best rappers – Jay-Z and 50 Cent are probably the only big playas missing – how they do their thing.

There’s a stack of great moments: KRS-One explaining rap-battling’s genesis from the slavery era, Ice revealing what he does when he forgets lyrics during a show, Grandmaster Caz writing a rap on the spot.

Freestyle, funny but finally just too repetitive, Ice’s affectionate home-movie needed someone to structure it into a deeper documentary.
