Same character name, totally different game

While playing a bit of Spirit Tracks I bumped into a tiny old man named Niko, who’s apparently been a part of Link and Zelda’s watery quests since the Wind Waker days. After that revelation shook its way through my bones, I realized, oh hey, his name’s Niko… as in Niko Bellic!

Above: Niko (GTA IV) and Niko (Spirit Tracks)

This of course began a chain reaction and subsequent office email to come up with enough to populate a list worthy of the internet. So without further dicking around, here it is. Oh, one bit of dicking – I’ve left off a lot of common recurring names. If we listed every Chris, Jill, Jack and John we’d be here forever.

Above: Kratos (God of War) and Kratos (Tales of Symphonia)

Above: Shadow Man (Shadow Man) and Shadow Man (Mega Man 3)

Above: Mario (Super Mario Bros) and Mario (Assassin’s Creed II)

Above: Ryu (Ninja Gaiden) and Ryu (Street Fighter II)

Above: The Prince (Prince of Persia) and The Prince (Katamari Damacy)

Above: Dante (Devil May Cry) and Dante (Dante’s Inferno)

What about Ezio in Assassin's Creed and Ezio in The Minish Cap?

Even though they're technically not exactly the same name, with only one letter changing between their names, I nominate: Alec Mason (Red Faction: Guerilla) Alex Mason (CoD: Black Ops) I mean they even look the same...

I think the two Nathan's aren't a coincidence seeing as they are both first party PS3 games/devs and their studios are situated very close together

cracker33: The screenshot is taken from the moment he says that line, if the subtitles are to be believed. Dante and Dante aren't exactly from very different games :P

Brock is probably the best name evar (Not to mention Pokemon character), so it's completely understandable that there are at least 2 people in video game land called Brock.

  • bloodyshadow - April 10, 2010 5:44 p.m.

Let's not forget Samurai Goroh from F-Zero (different spelling but same name.)
  • BluesyFish - April 10, 2010 5:33 p.m.

even though kens a common name, it would've been cool to put ken from street fighter and ken from ninja blade right under the ryus and show that street fighters main badaffs got their names lifted for ninja games
