Rurouni Kenshin review

Set in a 19th-century Japan where hair gel was in plentiful supply, this is a mildly diverting slice of fantasy samurai bollocks.

Adapted from a hugely popular manga, it's the tale of a former assassin who gets caught up in an opium lord's plan for… something or other.

It's a misstep in 2013 to make the villains so camp, and if you're not familiar with the source material, you'll be all at sea with the crowded cast and mythology.

Also, the supposedly jaded samurai hero looks all of 17. But the fights are nonetheless impressive - when they finally come.
