Report: Ico/Shadow of Colossus director Fumito Ueda has left Sony

When it was first announced, PS3-exclusive The Last Guardian was one of our most anticipated games of 2010, then one of our most anticipated for 2011, and now we’re really excited for it in 2012. But the delays and the fact that we hadn’t seen the game in a long time was starting to make us worried. And this new rumor floating around hardly comforts us, as Eurogamer reports the games director and Team Ico leader Fumito Ueda has quit Sony.

According to the rumor, Ueda has already left Sony but has been working to complete the Guardian in a freelance capacity. Team Ico has been working on Guardian for years with little shown of the game in the last 12 months. The rumor continues that after Last Guardian is done, Ueda will “embark on personal projects.” Sony hasn’t confirmed this yet, but if true, does this mean Guardian is the final game of Team Ico?

Not to suggest how to run your site, but this article should read "Rumor" not "Report." One might interpret the current term to be intentionally misleading...

Got the feeling that people's expectations are going to be to high when this game finally hits the stores, years of hyping the shit out of something tends to do that.

:'( Well, if it is Team ICO's last game, let's just hope it will end the "series" with a bang. I have VERY high hopes for this even if it is getting delayed to eternity.

As long as he's going to finish The Last Guardian, then I wish him well in his future projects. I've got every hope that TLG will be an absolute stunning end to the Team Ico legacy.

If the last guardian ever releases it better live up to the insane hype and be the best game of ever.

Any chance this might go multiplatform? I don't know if Sony owns part of Team Ico at this point.

I hope he cooks something up along the lines of his past projects. Only, you know, it won't be exclusive to anything.
