Rage story dissected in "The Dawn" developer diary

Stop us if you've heard this one before: an apocalyptic event forces humanity to seek refuge underground. You emerge from your vault-like shelter some time later only to discover what's left of the ravaged Earth has been be claimed by competing clans of bandits, raiders, thieves and mutants. Oh, and you're special – as in “key to humanity's survival” special. Still not ringing a bell? We bet you a few bottle caps you'll find the story behind id Software's upcoming Rage somewhat familiar after watching this latest developers' diary (and a few more caps that you'll be too intrigued to care).

Similarities to Fallout (and to a lesser degree, Borderlands) aside, Rage looks pretty interesting and... well... just damn pretty. It's evident id Software is making full use of the its new id Tech 5 engine, and that it isn't intent on simply riding on the coattails of previous post-apocalyptic fare.

We'll find out how well Rage plays out when it releases for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 4th in North America, and October 7th in the UK.

As has been suggested, I am most certainly too intrigued to care about the story copying. Looks like it will still definitely be good from what I have seen, and better looking at that. But I could care less about graphics honestly (anyone who has had a love for Fallout 3 or New Vegas knows that, but it wasn't all that bad) all I care about is if I can love the game for the game-play.

Blatant Fallout and Borderlands ripoff aside, and it's quite blatant, I'm confident this game is going to be awesome. I just hope the driving parts are as good as the FPS parts, because we know id will get the FPS parts right.

I'm interested but I agree with Jedipimp0712 it is a very unoriginal game, still though it looks promising.

@winner2 i am going to have to agree to disagree with you. they ripped the story from fallout, and some things like borderlands as well. (turret, vehicles etc). i am not saying its not going to be a blast, but its unoriginal. and it seems like Id may be trying to milk the post apocalyptic genre, and its their right too. i guess i have a problem with games that do not have an original story.

Don't even care about a fallout or borderlands comparison, never have, never will. This game looks too good and too fun to be compared to either of them.
