Quake Wars gets some class

Enemy Territory's character classes revealed

Activision and developer Splash Damage have released more information on the upcoming FPS Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, including backstory for the two warring sides and details of the character's classes.

Quake Wars is an online strategic shooter that pits the forces of Earth's Global Defence Force (GDF) against the invading Strogg forces. This is no ordinary team deathmatch, though, as the key to success means establishing bases, taking out defensive structures and using numerous futuristic vehicles to out-maneuver your opponents.

The GDF was established in the 21st century, when numerous national armies came together to fight terrorism and help in times of natural disaster. This "world army" is the only organization equipped to deal with the Strogg threat.

Earth's Global Defense Force comprises:

Soldier
The basic grunt armed with machine gun and rocket launcher.

Field Ops
In charge of artillery deployment and choice of targets. He can also call in air strikes and dispense ammo to fellow soldiers.

Engineer
Armed with a shotgun and mines, the engineer can construct and repair numerous things such as vehicles, bridges and defense turrets.

Covert Ops
Carries smoke grenades and a sniper rifle. This operative uses stealth to get close to the enemy, then uses PDAs to hack into enemy electronics.

Medic
There to heal and revive fellow soldiers while supporting in battle with an assault rifle.
