Harrison quits Sony... for Atari?

PlayStation game boss walks after 15 years

Sony has announced that Phil Harrison will resign from his position as president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios on February 29. No reason has been given for Harrison's decision to leave the company, and while there's no official word on his next endeavour, sources told GamesIndustry.biz that he'll be joining Atari in the near future to develop the company's position in the casual market.

Best known to gamers for his Sony E3 press conference appearances, Harrison has played a significant role in the launch of every PlayStation console and in leading Sony's first party game development. In his farewell statement, Harrison called his 15 years at Sony "the defining journey of my life so far,” and paid tribute to the console that he helped establish as an industry leader.

"I am grateful to all the PlayStation family for their incredible support, guidance and friendship.  It has been a privilege to serve as part of the team and be inspired by them on a daily basis.  I am so proud of everything PlayStation has achieved and will continue to support its future in every way I can."

Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment International, Kaz Hirai, will immediately assume responsibilities as president of SCE WWS, in addition to his current duties.
