Precursor temporarily cancels Shadow of the Eternals crowdfunding

Precursor Games has temporarily canned its crowdfunding drives for Eternal Darkness successor Shadow of the Eternals. The developer today announced that both its Kickstarter and private website drives will end on June 6 to be relaunched in a few weeks, and all pledges will either be cancelled or refunded depending on the platform.

"Since we announced this Kickstarter campaign we have seen more support from our community than we had ever hoped for," Precursor wrote. "Along with this support has come a host of a new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned."

That unexpected outpouring of support must not have been monetary: Shadow of the Eternals' Kickstarter only accrued about $127,000 of its $1,350,000 goal three weeks into the campaign. Kicktraq's most generous projections estimated it would close with $200,000 in pledges on June 19. Save for a sudden infusion of more than $1 million, Precursor would have received none of those contributions.

The 5,000 fans who donated about $280,00 to Shadow of the Eternals' website instead of its Kickstarter should keep an eye out for PayPal refunds.

Never really kept track of Dyack's career but knowing he was involved with too human was enough for me not to back them with any cash

I'm sorry, but I fucking called it from the beginning, and anyone stupid enough to have given their money to this project probably has it coming if they don't even get refunded. I mean, unless the people that donate lived under a rock, they HAD to have known about at least the whole Too Human disaster, and then the whole X-Men Destiny thing. And digging an itty bit deeper, the entire legal battle with Epic, and how THEY ended up losing, with good reason. If there is ONE developer out there that has a clear as day to see record of how he CANNOT be trusted, is Dennis Dyack and his Silicon Knights team. Well, them And Gearbox, I suppose... But at least they haven't been shameless enough to launch a kickstarter... yet.

Yeah pretty much, oh well, maybe Dennis will decide to give the project to someone else. Gearbox is a league on its own, how they can somehow make their own IP's well made but then turn other people's IP's into complete disasters is the biggest mysteries of world.

It's not a mystery in the least though. It's actually pretty simple, Gearbox uses the funding, time and resources that SHOULD go into another IP's game, and instead pool it into their own project. It's a bastard, dishonest, deplorable move, but it's one that makes all the sense in the world to me. What IS baffling, is how they have been able to get away with this with 3 games with no real consequences. I'm beyond amazed that SEGA has sued the shit out of them by this point. But that's another mystery altogether :P

True, poor Sega, they are in financial shit which is why they probably couldnt XD

    Didn't Gearbox make Borderlands?
  • BladedFalcon - June 5, 2013 10:46 a.m.

A-yup, which is why we said: When they are working one THEIR games, they make great stuff, see both Borderlands games. But when they are working on something that isn't their main interest, they produce shit, if they even produce it at all. (See Dukem Nukem Forever, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Borthers in arms: Furious 4) Which is why, even though they CAN make good games, I would never trust them with my money, because I have no guarantee they will use it on what I'm giving them for.

Hmm.......I wondered why I knew the name "Gearbox" before.......... Brothers in Arms 4 wasn't that bad :S
  • BladedFalcon - June 5, 2013 1:18 p.m.

Er... brothers in Arms: Furious 4 hasn't come out at all :P Hence my bit about "they produce shit, if they even produce it at all." That game was supposed to come out at least 2 years ago, but it jsut... vanished. Although knowing gearbox, they may still have the gall to claim that they are "working on it" .

"Er... brothers in Arms: Furious 4 hasn't come out at all :P" WHAT?!?! I was ripped off?! DAMN PISSANTS!!! My local game shop's is gonna get a fucking visit from me tomorrow!!!! >:O I've only played one Brothers in Arms and I'm not sure which one I played. Second-hand it was and I just had bought it 3 days ago [facepalm] :S Seeing as it had no videos, I thought it was pirated but didn't give a damn. BUT NOW!!! >:O

It's like you completely forgot all the shit Dyack And silicon Knights did between the first Eternal Darkness and NOW. Pretty funny that you expected anything more from those guys :P
