Poll: Would you pay for Red Dead Redemption's pre-order DLC?

If you pre-ordered Red Dead Redemption from Amazon, you got a DLC code to unlock the Golden Gun Weapon Pack. If you didn't, you don't have it... but you could. An entrepreneurial gamer is offering the code for sale on eBay, and with three days left at the time of this article's writing, he's got a high bid of $36.

Wow, who knew that anyone would be willing to drop over half the price of the game just for some exclusive DLC? If it was $36 important to them, why didn't they pre-order on Amazon to begin with?

Above: See?

Surely we aren't the only ones who think this is crazy, but maybe we're missing something. How important to you are those golden guns? Would you pay extra for a code? How could we possibly find this information out? With a poll maybe?

Would you pay over $30 for Red Dead Redemption's pre-order DLC?
Just placed a bid!
No, but for less I might
No, I wouldn't pay anything
Not for this DLC, but I'd consider it for something else

I know this is a little bit late, after seeing this last week, I put my code up on eBay. Well, the auction just closed, and some guy paid $12 for it. Thanks GamesRadar!
  • DoctorMcNinja - May 20, 2010 10:22 p.m.

Do you only get the code if you preordered it from Amazon, cause I preorded it from Gamestop and didn't see the code...
  • quicksilver_502 - May 20, 2010 12:09 p.m.

i preordered from amazon (should arrive tomorrow) but i'm pretty sure the guns just allow you to kill stuff better and look pimp. not really worth it.
  • FreekinIdiot - May 20, 2010 10:34 a.m.

I agree, what utter bullshit! As a button down, stiff upper lipped English bloke I'm privy to the great pre order bonuses that Amazon, GAME and HMV have on offer. And now I will sit back and wait for my cash bonus for plugging these companies..........
  • Jbo87 - May 20, 2010 10:25 a.m.

The question is does this code actually do anything besides make your guns golden. like the golden lancer in GOW2? I would never spend this much money on DLC but splashing out any of my hard earned for a purely aesthetic upgrade....... you must be having a laaaaaaaaaaaf.
  • Embolado - May 20, 2010 7:24 a.m.

Tyler are you bidding on this DLC?
  • ChuckB - May 20, 2010 7:12 a.m.

Perhaps they wanted to make sure RDR would sell all over the place given that it's new gameplay for the Red Dead series; next time, no.
  • Ensoul - May 20, 2010 3:32 a.m.

I wonder what EA and/or Ubisoft will come up with to disrupt this shocking "pirate-esque" trend? (For the record, no I would not pay for DLC in this fashion.)
  • Hurricrane - May 20, 2010 12:53 a.m.

... that is a disgusting sight. Next thing you know the whole "Reserve your copy and get the full game with this extra mode instead of a partial produst" will be making you PAY for more modes... *glug* captcha: and drinks
  • CH3BURASHKA - May 20, 2010 12:37 a.m.

This is precisely why I'm planning on buying anything Blizzard releases, then selling it 2 years later: there are those people who are crazy enough to buy it. Might as well make a profit. My decision is solely based on the sale of Burning Crusade (Special Edition or not, can't remember) on eBay for a cool $1500.
  • TheKennedyCurse - May 20, 2010 12:27 a.m.

I want to take advantage of idiots for monetary gain, too, why didn't I think of this before I entered my code!?
  • NeedlesKane - May 20, 2010 12:05 a.m.

RDR is GOTY! so go buy it if you havent already and if yo can get the exclusive content version(PS3) and look for me online. PSNid: sleepy92 I aleady killed a Rockstar so if you kill me you'll get a trophy, that's "if" you can kill me. @ interafied1 every time I went to checkout there was no release date delivery option so itook my money elsewhere.

This just seems stupid to me. What a waste of money! But the stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me. This article inspired a blog post for me. Thanks!
  • Samael - May 19, 2010 10:30 p.m.

That is the most ridiculous BS I've ever seen. Someone is really gonna pay thirty-six dollars (which you could buy a whole other used/low-price game with) for some slightly more powerful/flashy guns in a video game? Unbelievable. RDR is an incredible game, but there are lines I will not cross.
  • InstantTitKill - May 19, 2010 9:56 p.m.

I live in Sweden and here it doesn't really work the same way it seems to work in the US. When I preorder a game I'm not bound in anyway to actually buy the game, and preorder dlc is either unavailable or not bound to a single chain of stores. Game Stop hasn't really gotten any kind monopoly here because we have stores with better prices and better service. Non-gamers still seem to shop there but they don't even know what preorder dlc is so this type of marketing wouldn't really work on them xD. For some reason, this isn't even a preorder bonus here, it works the same way BF:BC2 worked in that the first copies of the game is called "Limited edition".
  • JADENkOTOR - May 19, 2010 9:45 p.m.

You have to be a complete DUMB-ASS to pay 36 dollars for some shit DLC... I mean straight up retarded
  • Tronto13 - May 19, 2010 9:39 p.m.

im with @felixthecat and have preordered the limited edition, which is great as you get the preorder bonuses from all of the seperate retailers and the soundtrack. I got the e-mail yesterday saying it was dispatcheed so fingers crossed itll arrive tomorrow (1 day before UK release!!)
  • integrafied1 - May 19, 2010 9:34 p.m.

NeedlesKane-I preordered from amazon and got release day shipping for free no problems. It was delivered via UPS yesterday(5/18) at around 11:30 am.
  • Felixthecat - May 19, 2010 9:28 p.m.

Well, I live in the UK, so can get the Limited Edition with all the pre-order bonuses + Soundtrack, so yay for me and the UK consumer's. NOW IT'S UST A MATTER OF WAITING!!!
  • NeedlesKane - May 19, 2010 9:20 p.m.

I am currently playing Red Dead Redemption and I love it. I originally planned on getting it from amazon until i found out they lied about it having release date delivery like they normally do. Yea you get a $20 dollar amazon gift card and golden guns which is great but without release date delivery you can't play the game first day. If you payed for 1 day shipping($10) you would just be getting it today and payed $70 for the game so i just preordered it from somewhere else and got the game for $50 bucks first day along with red dead revolver for $5. Thank you Action Game Exchange.
