Pokemon X and Y Weekly - Mega Charizard X makes us think

It's true that we've already posted our Pokemon X and Y review, but with the game still not out, we've got more breaking Pokemon X and Y news to address. This time we reflect on the surprising reveal of Mega Charizard X, the new Dragon-type form of Charizard that's exclusive to Pokemon X. What are his abilities? How do you get him? And does his exclusivity make you want to get a different version of the game? We explore all of that in the video below! (And be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don't miss another episode.)

Pokemon X and Y Weekly is GamesRadar's weekly Pokemon X and Y show. The title was a pretty obvious hint. Come back every Tuesday for the latest news, analysis, and speculation about the next generation of Pocket Monsters. You can also check out our Pokemon X and Y review.

took another look at the mega evolutions and some of them look like they're regaining qualities from thier previous forms

I'll just get both so I can have both forms :)

I really prefer Y's legendary... but those X megas seem really nice. I'm postponing a decision until Sunday. Don't let me down GR, you're my only hope.

As long as the Mega Venusaur we've seen is in Y, that will be my primary version. Otherwise I'm going to have to think about it.

X charizard is cooler than Y, and I like x mewtwo more than y. IMO, Y's legendary is a little cooler than X's, but I want to see the other megas for the other starters if there are any. Suddenly I'm slightly leaning toward X in part also due to the legendary being the new type, but we'll see. This is the hardest choice I've made between versions since diamond/pearl.

I love this design (and that of Mega Mewtwo X), but I'm sticking with Y because it seems like it will be the less popular version, so it's exclusives will be a little more rare. Plus I like the Y shaped legendary better, so the mega evolutions don't hold quite enough weight to sway me.

Not sure I really like the idea of having multiple Mega Evolutions for one Pokémon. But on the other hand, Mewtwo's and Charizard's 2 forms seem to be Attack and Special Attack based, which is good if you want a bit of a choice. X looks to be Physical and Y is Special. Doesn't really affect my version decision though (sticking with X). Not unless one of my favourite Pokémon has an exclusive Mega Evolution that I prefer, but I highly doubt that some of them even have one (not interested in any that have been revealed so far). Also I want to play the games spoiler-free so I wouldn't even know; I'm going to (read: try to) turn a blind eye to the content you said you were posting over the weekend in case I can still be pleasantly surprised, haha. Also I hope none of the individual ones are exclusive based on a comparable counterpart, e.g. Mega Electivire in X and Mega Magmortar in Y, Mega Arcanine in X and Mega Ninetales in Y (etc etc, if they even exist) as an example. I wonder if there will be Mega Pokémon in the game that are only obtainable from the Global Link, like Blaziken (i.e. the items are external to the game)? Since it won't have gone live yet, nobody would know unless they scoured the game code...if they add any more in a hypothetical Z game they'd still need to be programmed into X and Y also.

This is probably the best mega I've seen so far. An increased attack stat with a Charizard makes it perfect to use as a mixed sweeper thanks to it's diverse movepool, plus it looks cool as hell. I'm definitely happy with my choice to pre order x.
