Episode 2 highlights

Black and White cover legendaries revealed - The announcement of Zekrom and Reshiram took us totally by surprise. We discuss in a flurry of excitement. Which are you going to choose?

Milotic, so tender and graceful, yet so infuriating to obtain - Finding a Feebas is hard enough as it is, so why does maxing beauty before sheen have to be such a pain too?

Our Pokemon histories - We recount what got us into Pokemon originally and how super serious (but not that serious) we all are about it.

Congratulations, norwegiankingofnames! - You won Tyler's shiny Eevee for getting to the heart of the tragedy that is Farfetch'd. Expect a PM so we can set up a time to trade.

Question of the week: What is your most frustrating experience while playing a Pokemon game? Did you step in the wrong grass patch while chaining for shinies? Had to soft reset for Heatran's nature 20 times even though you were using Synchronize? Vent away in the comments below.

See you next week!

I'm an Australian listener and I demand my vegemite-holding Jirachi! My most frustrating Pokemon experience didn't happen to me personally, but I was responsible for it. Back in the day around when the original Gold and Silver came out, my friend got an event Celebi. He traded it to me and kept it for a while. Eventually I got bored of my Gold save file, and decided to start again with a different starter Pokemon, erasing my old file and Celebi in the process. Around that time, my friend asked for his recently-deceased Celebi back. Needless to say, he wasn't impressed.

I really haven't played a Pokemon since red and blue in (literally) the last millennium. But my most frustrating memory was when my cousin decided to pull the cart out while I was playing. He had no real knowledge of how video games worked. The game never really worked right after that. It's weird I can remember that over decade after it happened. It seems Pokemon has come a long way the past ten years. Just wanted to leave a comment to add to Chris' escalating sense of insecurity over the popularity of the show. TDar's days are numbered buddy. (kidding)
  • FlamingNinjaBob - June 4, 2010 10:10 p.m.

I'd have to say that my most memorable disaster ever in a pokemon game would have to be while playing Pokemon Saphire version. I had beat everything possible in the game, and it was a few weeks before the release of the DS that i had the urge to complete my pokedex. I somehow accumalated every pokemon except rayquaza via trading. So i turn on my Gameboy Advance one day and find that one of my Eevee eggs is hatching, my battery runs out right after that and i was never able to play my saphire again due to corruption.
  • DrKiss - June 4, 2010 6:53 a.m.

EP training all day, to get that perfect lvl 55 tyranitar with 200 attack, just to end up getting so excited it worked out so well that you drop you old DS and it splits in two, along with that tyranitar, that or crit hitting and killing (sorry, feinting) a shiney
  • TokenAustralian - June 4, 2010 3:27 a.m.

Australian Listener here! About time we started getting the events for HG/SS. Going to pick Reshiram. Most frustrating thing for me about Pokemon is the safari zone, especially HG/SS, since they almost always run from me. Plus I don't want to wait days for my rock items to level up...
  • unholychazer - June 2, 2010 10:51 p.m.

Mine had to be those frickin stupid contest things in diamond/pearl, those were NOT worth those goddam ribbons. here's a list of stuff I think they should change: 1.It should really have a warning telling you just how much battery time you have left to remind you to save. 2.Allow us to chose the colors of shinies when we finally catch them, cause some of them look pretty dumb. 3.If an opposing trainer or gym leader uses a sleep, confusion, healing, or accuracy dropping attacks 3 times in a frikkin row, they automatically lose. Also being able to buy master balls would be very much appreciated, just make them like like 100k so it's balanced
  • 8bitBaby - June 2, 2010 3:39 p.m.

i didn't get to listen to this till wednesday... but maaaaan i had the hardest time finding it. had to google it.
  • ChipTheExecutioner - June 2, 2010 7:34 a.m.

oh ya and apparently the host of Pokemon Sunday blogged about how she loves electric types and because of that she wants to get Zekrom, she took it down but ya it looks like Zekrom could be Dragon/Electric. a first.
  • ChipTheExecutioner - June 2, 2010 7:26 a.m.

Oh yeah and my most annoying experience in pokemon would have to be trying to catch a tauros in red version. I caught all other 149 but to this day I have to catch that bastard. (in that red save file)
  • ChipTheExecutioner - June 2, 2010 7:20 a.m.

I would greatly appreciate a feebas, those little (insert profanity of choice here) are damn annoying to find. about the legendaries though, Zekrom's tail reminds me of a jet engine in it's appearance, Reshiram's looks like a turbine to me as well. They kind of look awkward upright to me, their tails just seem too large and just make them visually appear offbalance, flying though they would probably look more natural. one could only guess as too what new types they could make. I suppose Light is a natural choice considering there is already Dark, but who knows what others they could do. If they made new types though it wouldn't mean that Zekrom and Reshiram had to be those types considering there wasn't a Dark type legendary until Darkrai and the first steel ones were Registeel and Jirachi. come to think of it, I don't think there's even been a Dark type gym leader. that's the only type i can't remember one for anyway, some Elite Four members but no gym leaders.

  • ThisIsMyBoomThingy - June 2, 2010 2:49 a.m.

by the way, my most frustrating moment is right now. i'm stuck in soul silver and i can't figure out where to go. *sad face*
  • ThisIsMyBoomThingy - June 2, 2010 2:44 a.m.

hey! i've never played a pokemon game until i started listening to talk radar and now i can't get enough. *baby laugh* thanks t-dar!
  • ricono - June 2, 2010 1:16 a.m.

my most frustrating moment was that by some stroke of luck i caught a shiny stary (before i even knew what shinies were) my little cousin came over and deleted my save and ruined my shiny:( i nearly killed him but he was four so i did nothing but cry into my pillow
  • damunsta - June 1, 2010 7:42 p.m.

When I was younger I started a new game and played for about 4 hours. when I tried to save I realized that you first have to delete the original game. All my work gone.
  • powergamer - June 1, 2010 7:41 p.m.

No because I use pokesav. Eff yeah.
  • Crabhand - June 1, 2010 7:26 p.m.

I could never capture Suicune, Entei, or Raikou when I was ten years old, playing my Gold version. OH even better! In my Yellow version I had cought all 150 Pokémon and completed the Pokédex, all except for one: Mew. As a 9 year old self proclaimed Pokémon master, I felt this injustice could not be left alone, so I had a friend with a Gameshark create one in my game. It was on this day I learned that no goal is worth delving into the devious world of Gameshark, as it corrupted my game and forced me to restart. I seriously (and I'm not afraid to admit it), began to cry. I grew up, I cried all emotion from my body that day. I became a man.
  • georgeg1994 - June 1, 2010 5:55 p.m.

After having a game with over 200 hours playtime, most of the pokemon, high level etc, i was bored, so started a new game with the thought in mind of not actually saving. Whilst I was walking in the grass at the start of route to viridian city, after having defeated my rival for the first time, i stumble upon a shiny weedle. I was gobsmacked, this was in pokemon silver, where the odds were something rediculous like 1 in 4,000 odd, and no chaining or items to help either. So i had a choice, take the shiny weedle and lose all my old pokemon, or sacrafice this rare God. I sided with my trusted old companions, and then 2 days later I started a new gmae again, and saved by accident, without a shiny weedle.
  • Conman93 - June 1, 2010 4:54 p.m.

My most infuriating moment is probably that FUCKING MILTANK!!!!
  • StriderHoang - June 1, 2010 4:18 p.m.

It'd be nice to see new types introduced into B&W, but light type? Maybe it's just me, but I always thought of psychic as the counter-balance type to dark, especially since dark was introduced to counter psychic (which had no natural counter in red/blue. There were no good bug or ghost attacks to actually hit psychics back then). A new type would be cool but I honestly can't think of any. They've pretty much hit every naturally occurring element.
