How much do you value your spare time? As great as it is to spend time in the company of the Caped Crusader and the rest of the Justice League are you really up for spending nearly 3 hours of your time watching DC’s latest movie? And how does it stack up compared to other comic book movies? I’ve crunched the numbers to come up with a list of the top 10 longest comic book movies ever.
Screen Rant are reporting that Justice League will come in at a whopping 170 minutes. That’s 10,200 seconds of your life you’re committing to watching Zack Snyder’s latest superhero time-sink. Just sayin’.
That officially makes it the longest comic book movie ever, beating out The Dark Knight Rises (165 minutes) by a whisker (or a padded scene or two).
Watchmen is next with a 162 minute runtime. And roughly only 4 minutes of those were good. That’s some ratio. And, no, I’m not including the hideously over-bloated director’s cut. Cinematic versions only because it’s MY LIST.
The Dark Knight – arguably the greatest comic book movie ever – weighs in a relatively slim 152 minutes.
Batman v Superman may have felt like several weeks but it was, in fact, only (I say only but, y’know…) 151 minutes.
Man of Steel – that of Superman-murdering fame – was 148 depressing, doom-and-gloom minutes I’ll never get back. Can you sense a theme here? *cough* DC *cough*
It’s not only DC with a mandate to fill our lives with hour-upon-hour of comic book movies. Captain America: Civil War clocks in at a sizeable 146 minutes. That only included half of the Avengers. At this rate, Avengers: Infinity War is going to be roughly 8 hours long.
Avengers: Age of Ultron also makes an appearance here, coming in at 142 minutes. At this point, you’re probably trying to count how many hours of your life you’ve wasted. Sorry about that. Life is meaningless etc etc.
Logan’s run (I’ve always wanted to make that joke) manages to to claw its way into the top 10 with a 141 minute runtime.
Batman Begins kickstarted the trend of ridiculously long comic book movies (who else misses the 90 minutes and done movies from the 90s?) and it’s no surprise to see it here. 140 minutes. It looks pathetic by comparison but we should all tut and roll our eyes at it because it’s all Batman Begins’ fault, damnit.
Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher, Justice League blasts into theaters on November 17, 2017.
