Official Nintendo Magazine creates world-first interactive cover

Official Nintendo Magazine is celebrating the success of the Nintendo 3DS console with a world-first interactive cover created with the help of its readers. The next issue features the best 100 readers’ Miis on a special gatefold cover, selected from the thousands sent in by committed Nintendo fans via the magazine's website.

Best bit? You can get hold of any of them you like for your own 3DS, thanks to the eldritch magic of the handheld's QR code scanning function. Every Mii has its own code printed on the back of it, meaning that a quick zap of the 3DS' camera will pop them off the page and onto your screen.

Above: Pop!

Issue 68 also features a brilliant Zelda double bill, with in-depth previews of Ocarina Of Time and Skyward Sword. There’s also an exclusive window cling free with every copy. Official Nintendo Magazine issue 68 goes on sale 14th April priced at £3.99.

Well yeah, as @commie said, is not the first cover with interactivity. Actually, i don't know if it's in many countries, but here in my country i get in my phone book, and also in catalogs from different retails some "augmented reality" spots to use them with the webcam, i remember i got some catalog for Barbie products with that interactivity. Also i remember some Coke campaign and on the bottle's tag there came some spots for using with the webcam, entering to their web page.

Hate to be a party pooper but the title of this article is incorrect, Esquire already did an interactive cover (and full issue) that used webcams instead of 3DS (they called it "augmented reality"). Unless you meant it's the first cover that interacts with the 3DS but that's not how it reads.

That's pretty cool for the people who have the 3DS, i toyed with my friends for a bit and I think that would be pretty interesting (:

Gotta say, I'm interested in the 3DS...but not gonna be picking it up til some better games start showing up. Still, as far as a gimmick goes, this is defiantly one of the coolest I've seen.
