Usually I would use some snide remark here, but I ask in all sincerity... There are people who think this looks good? It's embarrassing to see. The big thing that some people think make it stand apart is the 3D stuff? As the article said, you can tell that it was designed with 3D in mind, and in that aspect is it's biggest failure. It's obviously built behind a failed gimmick and drags the whole product down with it. When you design for 3D and 3D sucks, 2D isn't going to be worth it either. The characters designs themselves aren't utterly horrible, but it's like a big ugly pastel mess, color-wise, making it an eyesore. It is honestly like Nintendo wrote down a list of as many things they could do wrong, stuck it to a dartboard and threw some darts. The ones hit were added. There is no other apparently form or function to the product. As I said, I usually would just throw in a snide remark, but I just am shocked to see that ANYONE has any interest in this, especially after seeing Nintendos own promo videos (which by definition, shows parts that they think best showcase the game). I'm right at the head of the pack that say that Nintendo needs to quit wasting time and just go the Sega route (software only. They've proven they can't do hardware), but this gives me pause at them even doing that right anymore.

The great thing that sets Mario games apart from the rest, and especially the look of this is the great level design. Add to the fact in glarious 3d, we have a winner. I'am glad I've got a 3ds, now just MGS3 Snake Eater 3d, Resident Evil Revalations, Kid Icurus Uprising and Mario Kart 7. Hmmm not forgetting the extra dual stick extension, things are looking gud! :)

Anyone noticed the luigi statue in the right side?
  • shawksta - October 7, 2011 4:03 p.m.

Its crazy that tails are everywhere, but the story makes it all make sense, a strong wing blew a Tanooki leaf tree hard where every single one went all over the kingdom. Also,Anyone notice there's a female with a boomerang next to Boom-Boom? Glad to see someone new!

what's up with the opuyopa things in picture 8? I don't recognize them, but I'm definitely calling them that even if they have names.

Nintendo, you do know that you aren't Sonic Team, right? Your fanbase isn't going to think you still care because you put some nostalgic throwbacks in your games. Nintendo is like a 90's celebrity. It's way past it's prime, so it does a bunch of stupid shįt to compensate.
  • slimjim441 - October 7, 2011 1:58 p.m.

You're right, Nintendo is past its prime. Games like Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Fire Emblem PoR and RD, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Super Paper Mario, Epic Mickey and Punch Out!! are all such unimaginative and lackluster games. Seriously, what have they been thinking?
  • jmcgrotty - October 11, 2011 5:06 a.m.

Take out your sarcasm and you're 100% right.
  • shawksta - October 7, 2011 3:56 p.m.

Except Nintendo's not Sega, and nothing is like Nintendo. People DO care when they do this cause they reborn things and besides its the GAMEPLAY is what won us over. Only Nintendo can refresh their series into modern days without Fu**ing it up and still do it for 25 years, thats why they are legendary. They care about changing things in series without losing its core, and their still doing it,Donkey kong country had been revived,Punch out was revived, Kid icarus was reborn into something new, the tanooki leaf is back and god knows what nintendos doing next.
  • Rezindez - October 8, 2011 12:49 p.m.

That's stupid. Just because they put a nostalgic touch here and there doesn't automatically make nostalgia the major selling point of the game. It's always only going to be a loving pat on the back for gamers who are in the know, and Nintendo knows that. They aren't trying to sell the game with those racoon tails, they're trying to sell it on its level design, creativity, charm, variety, and gameplay. Stop being such a shallow, hateful jackass.
  • Logic - October 7, 2011 12:46 p.m.

In before they make a raccoon on a raccoon tail.
  • IceBlueKirby - October 7, 2011 10:21 a.m.

They even put spikes on Bowser's raccoon tail. Amazing.
  • therawski - October 7, 2011 9:06 a.m.

Wanna start a meme anyone? I'll bet Nintendo does.
  • smashpro1 - October 7, 2011 1:29 p.m.

Someone already has: http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2011/10/03/367-tanooki-madness/ Not that the comic came out before this article.
  • MrSuitMan - October 7, 2011 7:50 a.m.

This reminds me alot of the Dragon Quest Rocket Slime game.
  • 510BrotherPanda - October 7, 2011 12:24 p.m.

You mean, in the way that every Dragon Quest monster in it had Platypunk tails? There was a Tanooki Goomba in the Mario & Luigi series that could imitate other characters, except for the tanuki tails...maybe this Bowser is fake?
  • TheFabricOfTime - October 8, 2011 5:13 a.m.

It's not a fake. Bowser had a tail in one of the more recent trailers. What he would do with it... I have no idea. Maybe take on some Mario abilities... :o
