New details revealed in Final Fantasy XIII-2 images

Square-Enix has just released the biggest batch of Final Fantasy XIII-2 screens yet, and if you look closely and you'll find tidbits on the battle system, story and new locations in the sequel. Join us as we dissect the details...

Sora and Fang's lovechild Noel's last name is Kreiss. *Looks up meaning of Kreiss* ..."dweller on a boundary line" sounds like he might be crucial in uniting the worlds of Cocoon and Pulse, maybe?

What's true??? OMG WHAT IS TRUE??! In the background we also see a lovely beach scene, and since Cocoon looms in the sky, we know they're on Pulse. We never visited any such beachy areas on Pulse in FFXIII, so this location must be new.

Another shot of the beach. The only town we saw on Pulse in FFXIII was Vanille and Fang's hometown of Oerba, but this place looks more like the Pulse version of Cocoon's Bodhum.

Who dat?! It almost looks like an updated version of Anima from FFX, but it looks nothing like the Anima we saw as a fal'Cie boss in FFXIII. Regardless, this fearsome guy must be a fal'Cie of some sort.

Looks like some kind of meteorite has crashed into Pulse. First Cocoon, now a meteorite? Can't a planet catch a break? Where is Ragnarok when you need her?

Confirming what we saw at it E3, here we see the battle system remains intact. If it ain't broke...

Looks like some enemies are recycled, too.

So far, Noel, Serah and Lightning are the only confirmed playable characters - we're eager to see more.

Fingers crossed to get to play as Dajh. He should be 11 by now. Seems old enough for adventure to me.

Serah's new look is kinda weird. i somehow preferred the school girl but not look

I hope they scrap most of the original cast. They were trash. I hope they change as much about XIII-2 as humanly possible, because XIII was not what I had hoped for. As in it sucked.

I can't wait, I loved FFXIII and this looks like it improved upon many of the original criticisms.

@Clovin is right. That's the dock thing from the beginning of XIII where Serah and Snow go. For me, I just want to see some of the original party return as playable. We have Lightning, and she's the one everybody really wanted back, and Serah's cool and I guess Noel could be too, but no one else? That would just be an odd thing to do in an RPG sequel when the first game was so heavily character driven.

I definately don't care. I'm sorry, as much as I loved the series, I just odn't care about a remake of a game I had no love for to begin with. To put this in perspective. I got a Ps2 for FFVX and a PS1 for FFVII... And yet I fell asleep, literally fell asleep during the first disc of FFVIII.

Apparantly the beach town seen these screens is a rebuilt version of Bodhum from FFXIII (the town Lightning, serah and Snow lived in) except its been built on Pulse. Its still a bit of a downer to me that Serah and the new dude are taking centre stage while Lightning and the rest of the FFXIII crew will be supporting characters at best. serah always seemed too much like a Twilight girl for my liking.

I posted about these in a forum once. -The beach reminds me of Kilika in X / X-2, it still might be Cocoon though since it has modern feel to it. Or more likely, it's New Bodhlum, built by the original Bodhlum inihabitors. (They brought the blue print) -See the battle ss, Noel hogging all the spotlight. -The meteor will fall to the ground and corrupt it. You will have to cleanse it from dark fal'Cie, then it will become fertile ground. -If you look inside the meteor, there will be Jenova. Lightning will come and remove her wig, showing that she is indeed Cloud. It's just some random stuffs we came up with. On more serious account: -Lightning will not be around much. In trailer, she is on higher level than Noel - Serah, so there are 2 possibilities, they switch back and forth between them, or Lightning is only support char and will join much later on (hopefully below 20 hours). -I call it Raiden syndrome, where loveable chars takes a backseat just so new char can ride the hype they've established (like in MGS2 or Nero in DMC4)... -Old chars will return, it's a waste if they don't. I do hope monster pet isn't counted as party member, maybe guest or such.

I loved FFXIII, EXCEPT that damn Treasure Hunter trophy which made me want to break things.

@Crabhand Snow is confirmed to be in the game, but that's about it.

I never played FF13, but I was interested in it, at least; I just don't own the system on which to play it... I hope Sazh and his son come back, they seemed like nice characters.

I loved FF13. Screw the douchers that didn't. Yes, you are a douche if you hated that game. It's scientific.

still waiting to here more about the original cast...it looks good...but i want to see who are our playable characters and who are our no shows. not hearing anything about Snow by now smell really fishy
  • TheHangman - June 29, 2011 5:36 p.m.

I'm guessing sazh will show up but won't be playable because his son is back.
  • G0D - June 29, 2011 5:07 p.m.

this will be as much a sequel as Chrono Cross was a sequel to Chrono Trigger... weird parallel dimensions n shit
  • GamesRadarCarolynGudmundson - June 29, 2011 5:06 p.m.

@Clovin64 - oh yeah! I meant it looks like Bodhum, not Palumpolum. Whoops. I wonder if all of Cocoon is uninhabitable now, or just parts of it?
  • davidnorman - June 29, 2011 4:47 p.m.

@angelusdlion A remake? I think you will find this is a sequel.
  • Crabhand - June 29, 2011 4:05 p.m.

Still curious about what happened to Snow...
